It's time to dive back into the tent. Okay, the time was actually a week ago; this is day seven already. Last grow at this point, I was whining about how boring the first two weeks are, but it's really not that bad, as long as you already have six months worth of weed on hand...

This time around it's a couple of Mephisto Genetics limited edition strains: Sour Hound and Sour Bubblin' Crack. I had planned on Chemdogging and Walter White, but the little gals are so much fun, I decided to put those on hold and run with these two. A lesson to be learned: if you're anything like me, don't plan two or three grows ahead, just wait and buy the seeds for the next grow when the time comes as you'll change your mind anyway. On the other hand, after fifty odd years on this planet, I've learned that everything changes eventually; it can't be a bad thing to have a nice stash of seeds on hand!

I decided to skip the names this time around. I kept thinking of names appropriate for Sour Hound (Crabby Lassie was my favorite) but all that comes to mind when I think of Sour Bubblin' Crack is Immodium AD or "Pepto". So this time around it's going to be SH1 and 2, and SBC1 and 2. Now for the details:

Environment:

Cheap ass 3X3X6 foot grow tent (Brand name: One Deal. Avoid at all costs!)
Virtual Sun 4" inline fan and carbon scrubber; passive intake
4 3 Gallon equivalent (yellow base) Air-Pots
Fox Farm Happy Frog potting soil with Azomite and NO perlite (I don't want to hear about it!)
Hydroponics Hut PG-260 LED panel
150 watt Sun Systems HPS lamp

Regimen:
Fox Farms Big Bloom, Grow Big and Tiger Bloom, plus Bembe, and whatever else I feel like throwing in...
Fox Farms Beastie Bloomz and Cha-Ching; haven't decided on Open Sesame yet-I'm thinking of skipping it
Botanicare Cal-Mag
General Hydroponics Armor Si
"aged" aerated water
I feed with every watering, so 1/3 strength on nutes, starting at week three

Day 7:

For now, the two Sour Hounds have the sticks. I can't seem to find my plant label thingies...

edited to add:

I see I left out an important point again-I run my lights 24/0. Yeah, I get that it's unnatural, but I figure we crossed that line back when we decided to raise plants in a tent under a light bulb.

DAY 13: The first day of ponytailing! I started the girls on Armor Si on the ninth (day 8), and they're still on that (.5 tsp per gal) and water, no nutes. I've got to say, they're doing great. For those of you who haven't seen my grows (this is only my third), the first one was a batch of stumpy plants, while the next was still on the short side, but not that bad. Now, this grow seems to be doing even better. The plants are more developed than last time at this point in the grow. The point of this is, I'm 99% sure I know what my problem was: the friggin' perlite I was using. The first grow had a ratio of 2:1 soil to perlite, and I couldn't keep the soil pH high enough to save my life. The next grow was 8:1, and things went pretty well. This time I just left it out, and although it has made watering a bit more work (I have to water more often, with less water), I think it's going to be good news come harvest time. Wish I could tell you all the brand name of the perlite, but I threw it out in a fit of anger halfway through the last grow...

And, if you guys can tell me what perlite you're using without an acid problem, please, feel free!

ohh man im in on this journey :smoking::pass: i think my next purchase will include some mephisto genetics, i took a year break and came and all i see are some really nice plants from mephisto everywhere on here and daamn i am amazed so much frostyness everywhere.

You won't be disappointed, nizmoKush!

Here's a baby picture, a two week old Sour Hound:

My apologies to a number of you who have posted two week old pictures that prompted me to think "bullshit", just because I couldn't do it.

DAY 21: A little updating...; I trimmed two sets of fan leaves off of each plant to let more light onto the branches on day 18. On day 19 I started feeding nutes at 1/6 the suggested dosage.

Time for some photos! The first two are Sour Hound, the second two are the Sour Bubblin' Crack.

Growing without perlite has been interesting. In my past grows, I generally watered every other day, but now it's pretty much every day without fail. I thought this would be a bit of a pain, but actually I'm kind of enjoying it. I feel more involved with the grow, and, let's be honest-I'm going to have the tent open every day anyway! I'm wondering though-if I'm watering every day (and feeding with every watering the way I've become accustomed to doing), I should probably just keep the nutes at half my normal usage (1/6 suggested rather than 1/3) unless I see some problems. Don't want to overload them!
