My lil LED Set-up

Just got everything set up.

My tent is the 1.7'x3'x5' from Lighthouse Hydro, ordered from Gotham Hydro

My filter and 440cfm 6'' fan, This fan is on a speed controller and will be running on low most of the time.

My blackstar 240w panel and a few smart pots for reference, they are 3gal. I might be adding a few 6500k side strips, not sure yet. I am leaning towards just getting another blackstar and trying to use LED exclusively

Now I am just waiting on my beans, I have some Mi5 and easy ryder coming from attitude and some of Mossy's JEMs on the way.

alrite RoD! awesome brotha...cant wait to see it in action my man!

Whoo!! After reading this whole thread throughout the day I've decided to go exclusively LED. I already have a 90w UFO supplementing my HPS atm but after reading this made me realize I wanna go FULL LED. I just placed an order for a 240w Blackstar with 3w LED's. Muddy and TS; you have definitely convinced me. Super stoked to get this panel in and start a fresh grow in my tent. I'll keep you guys updated on the progress. ++Rep for sure.

Those lights are not strong enough to cause bleaching. Matter of fact, they really aren't strong enough to grow a decent plant, and as I explained in your other thread, do not provide the correct light spectrums. If you insist on buying them, plan on adding some CFLs to provide supplemental light, especially for the lower branches.

Hello

Please can you guys give me some advice?

I am going to buy these lights - how far away from my plants should they be to prevent bleaching?

DSC00890.jpgIf you're gonna use led start of finish I would rec using at least 100w of actual led output (not chipset capacity) per auto. I have a four plant garden with four panels, two of which draw and produce 130w of output power, one at 155w, one at 150w. Super happy to be rid of hid, the investment pays for itself rather quickly. I regularly pull over an oz, sometimes close to 2 per plant depending on pheno. A lot of companies advertise the chipset capacity of their lights you'll want to know actual output when purchasing. My advice to anyone looking to go all led would be to research the hell out of the company you're considering as there are, unfortunately, a lot of people out there ready and willing to sell you some shitty automotive grade leds that will not give you what you're after.
My set up is very similar to T-shirts, although I use a different brand. I'm of the opinion that having several smaller panels is far better (and more modular) than one massive 500w panel. This allows you to tailor each light to the appropriate height for each plant in your garden, plus if one is an early finisher put that light on tilt and blast the crap out of the remaining plants. That's what I did on my last run where one plant took two weeks longer than the other three (pic attached).

Muddy is right, those led spot lights won't do shit - here is why.

The individual strength of the diodes is super weak. To make the math easy lets say the light in the link you posted has 80 diodes and produces 8w of total output power. So 1/10th of a watt per diode as opposed to real led lights, most of which now run at a 3w chipset. The total output power on a 3w chipset is roughly 2.1w per diode. They're dialed down using step down transformers which ensures the longevity of the lights. This is why they last 50,000 hours.

Leds are way different that hid when looking at wattage you'll want to know how much intensity each diode produces on any light you're considering. You could, theoretically, have a 500w panel with 2000 diodes that wouldn't grow for shit because the intensity per diode isn't enough to provide your plant what it needs.

Also man, any legit led will be backed by a warranty of some sort. Real leds cost real money, I paid about a $250 a pop for each of the four panels I'm running

My buddy picked up a 240w blackstar flowering model... Since he won't be flowering for a few months we put it in my tent. For the time being I have 740w blackstar in my flowering tent. Here is my Kandy Kush, Chocolope, and White Widow (all non auto) at day 53. 30 of 12/12.. White Widow was a slow starter but is doing well now.

Thanks all for your comments, I'm a bit disheartened now. I just wanted to do everything really cheap because I will go back to England in 9months and didn't want to waste money in equipment that I wouldn't be using that much. Also I know China makes a lot of this stuff but it's mostly not for this market and can't be sold here. You have to import it back into and China puts massive import taxes of like 50% on most things coming in to the country. Do those CFL's work that you can just buy from any shop?

You can get like 3 full grows in 9 months easily. You can certainly grow with cfl or t5 which should be in stock at any hydroponics store.
