Hello,

I found this link saying that the Bud Candy from Advanced Nutrients could contains pesticide..

https://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/Pesticides/Documents/2018Advisories/BudCandy.pdf

Have you heard about it ? This company has a very good reputation, and they are saying here that "has reason to believe that" .. so it's not sure.. what do you think about it ?

Oregon Kate Brown, Governor Department of Agriculture 635 Capitol St NE Salem, OR 97301-2532 Pesticide Advisory Alert - Advanced Nutrients, Bud Candy (w/ magnesium nitrate), by Advanced Nutrients, contains salicylic acid April 27, 2018 The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) has reason to believe the product Bud Candy (w/ magnesium nitrate), manufactured by Advanced Nutrients, contains a pesticide active ingredient, salicylic acid, not listed on the label. This advisory is based on laboratory testing and confirmation of undeclared pesticide active ingredients. Growers of all crops and retailers are advised to discontinue using or selling Bud Candy (w/ magnesium nitrate) until further notice. The Department has issued a statewide Stop, Sale or Removal Order and is working with the manufacturer to rectify the situation. with a government agency reporting it, and the way they say it, I believe it.
but a bit of nuance, they specifically mention salicylic acid.
salicylic acid is not a standard pesticide. it doesn't kill stuff directly, however it works as a plant hormone to trigger SAR(systemic acquired resistance).
SAR is basically the principle that if a plant is attacked by one pest/enemy, it activates it's defenses, and then when it's attacked by a 2nd enemy it's defenses are already up and running and it can react quicker and better to the 2nd threat. but stuff like salicylic acid activates this too without there being an actual 1st pest.
so that mechanism is probably why they call it a 'pesticide active ingredient'.
however it may be it's added to bud candy for another reason(as a plant hormone, SA has more effects/functions as just inducing SAR, but don't really know what it's other effects are, might also be specific effects to cannabis)

chemically, salicylic acid is very close to aspirin(aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid). that and plant hormones usually only needing very low concentration to work, my guess would be that the harm from this ingredient is minimal.

however, the bad thing is they didn't disclose it was there. putting stuff in your product without putting it on the lable is bad, no matter how harmless that ingredient is imo.

thanks @fryge very interessant informations !

As i already bought it, I'll use it.. it doesn't look that dangerous.

Next time i'll try to find a similar product.

If it is consistently found in the the AN product, it surely is meant to be there. I'm confident a market leader like AN is only going to put anything in one of its more popular products if there is good reason (it has proven positive effects). I use Bud Candy and other AN products [although I'm switching over to the MegaCrop products].

I presume that there are a good number of never dislosed, trade secret additives in AN products (perhaps, why we pay more) and most every other complex mixture-type hydro nutrient product. As regulatory systems in legal states get more involved in cannabis growing, there will be lots more such disclosures of nutrient ingredients that happen to not be included in the always incomplete listings on the containers, Web sites, etc.

Here, as I recall, salicylic acid is totally a harmless, natural, organic, common, classic medical plant active agent used as a topical anti-inflammatory. It could even be there just as a formulation stabilizer or other function, not even affect the plant at all. In my view, not a concern!
