Lighting Buying Some Cobs- - - Watts per sq ft/framework--- please advise

@BigSm0 Hey man I am looking at cobs and the cobshop. I am a little confused atm. What is the advantage of the autocob versus a citizen almost complete? Considering both but have limited funds right now.

I want to cover at least a good 2x4 section of my tent and add more cobs in the future. What's the best route I should take? I want to rid myself of the hps power draw, while maximizing yield. Would rather make a wise investment now than spend $ foolishly and have to upgrade again. Thanks man!

Sorry for the delay Nebula
The Autocob is a complete light which is ready to hang. It has an attached driver, power cord and comes with ratchet hangers which allows you to hang the light in a matter of seconds. The almost complete is basically the autocob without the driver, brackets and power cord. The reason for this is to allow a little DIY and savings.

To complete the "almost complete" you would need some sort of frame, and driver to power the cob or cobs and wiring. If you wanted to power the 2x4 space I would recommend 2 cobs minimum and 3 cobs would be ideal. The benefit with the autocob is you can hang them individually and at different heights like this. You can also start with a lower amount of lights and add more as your plants expand.

No worries Sm0. I have been pondering how to go about getting into cobs and what funds I have available. I like the flexibility of the autocob. I have some plants in 7 gal pots and some in 50 gal sterilite tubs. The height difference in pots is already proving to be a challenge that could easily be rectified by having a few autocobs. i would love to grab the 4 pack right now and put two on each end of the tent but funds will only allow 2, maybe 3.

I have a few bucks put away for the 4/20 mephisto drop, but I think I am going to put that towards cobs. Just makes sense to get 4 for the cost. The sooner I can rid myself of the 600w hps the better. The sonoran desert is not kind to indoor growers and their electric bills!

I saw that reflectors will be available soon. If I want to place an order this week would I benefit by waiting for them to come in? Thanks BigSm0

Amazing site eh Nebula? I checked on building my own also. No way can I acquire the parts Big uses, pay shipping, buy paste I'd use once and assemble it correctly and have it warranted. Not to mention my time and frustration if something went wrong. For the $ he charges and the piece of mind I also receive. I was not B S when I said 90 seconds to open the box, hang the light and plug it in. AutoCobs are SWEET. They rock.
And wait till you see how your girls love the white light.......

Perfect timing. I just saw the delivery right as I opened afn back up. Reflectors are in and they will be listed soon. Anyone interested can PM me. It's been awhile since I placed the order but I think :baked: I ordered different temp cobs too for custom autocobs. I'll fire off a pm to you shortly and see if we can come up with a solution.

Sure is man! I have been very impressed with the AFN mods and community. Appreciate the heads up on the autocobs :d5: Really going to try hard to get the 4 autocobs. After checking out some grows here with cobs I decided to go for it (the 4 cobs in a 4x4 seals the deal for me)

Not gonna lie, I have the experience and know how to assemble this type of stuff in my sleep. I can't build an autocob for that price, and having them warranted and tested is a big plus. If I like the autocobs like I think I will, I can see a nice project coming down the line. I have looked into the different chips and power supplies. Watched some videos on putting these together. What really interests me is the ability to really tweak your system with the cobs. And of course all the money I will save on electric. It's going to be nice to run a passive system with temps over 100 outside and not have to crank the ac 24/7. And I am also looking at running lights 24 hours. I feel like its a winning proposition all around:pass:

The autocob is 55w per light. But remember... 50% more efficient.. So that 55 watts of light is actually better than a "300w blurple" led that pulls 110-130 from the wall. I saw a post today on here where another autocob user compared par readings from his autocob to his 450w Viparspectra that pulled 200w from the wall. And the PAR numbers were almost identical. Thats huge! The complete cob has a power cord attached and is passively cooled. The almost complete autocob still needs a driver and power chord. Its like halfway finished diy light.
Where did you see the par readings? And thank you for the comment.

I just found the post.. It was lux not par.. My mistake..

Thanks!
So the ladies seem to be loving the light :)
It really is amazing how strong these lights are! I'm getting the same lux reading with this light at the 200w Vipar at the same distance!
And on top of that, the seedlings seem to be thriving whereas the Vipar was throwing them for a loop!
