Extraction Canna Olive Oil What it can do for you

Arnica Montana aka Wolfs Bane

When used topically in a gel at 50% concentration, Arnica montana was found to have the same effect when compared to a 5% ibuprofen gel for treating the symptoms of hand osteoarthritis

Helenalin is a highly toxic compound BAD
Thymol (also known as 2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol, IPMP) is a natural monoterpene phenol derivative of cymene, C10H14O, isomeric with carvacrol, found in oil of thyme, GOOD

Mossy was working on some herbs Maybe if Thymol is helping you an extraction from thyme could be added to my rub.

Probably the more toxic Helenalin is working in smaller doses Topically

I did not know of it but do now. Thanks pher, :smokebuds:

Medicinal uses[edit]
Arnica montana has been used medicinally for centuries. Arnica is used in liniment and ointment preparations used for strains, sprains, and bruises. Commercial Arnica preparations are frequently used by professional athletes.[3] According to The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, clinical trials "suggest benefits of arnica for osteoarthritis and reduction in postoperative swelling and pain." [4]
A study of wound-healing after surgery to treat varicose veins found no statistically significant proof of efficacy.[5]
Toxicity[edit]
Arnica contains the toxin helenalin, which can be poisonous if large amounts of the plant are eaten, and contact with the plant can also cause skin irritation.[6][7] If enough of the material is ingested, the toxin helenalin produces severe gastroenteritis, and internal bleeding of the digestive tract.[8] Homeopathic preparations of Arnica 24X dilution or more are neither toxic nor effective as negligible amounts of Arnica remain.[9][10][11]

Not sure if you are familiar with homeopathy at all but... Its controversial because natural herbs or flowers are used as the "active ingredients", so to speak, but then they are diluted through the process of succession, until not even a molecule of the original ingredient is left, in some cases. Some argue that its strictly placebo effect since it is so diluted, there can't possibly be negative or positive benefits from it. Others, swear by homeopathic remedies, even in instances where traditional Western medicine has failed.

Another part of the homeopathic principle, is that things that may cause the symptoms you are trying to treat, if taken in extremely small amounts will acttually allow your body to "repair" the problem causing the symptoms. For example, a highly diluted homeopathic dose of coffee extract is given to treat insomnia or restlessness.

I am in no way an expert in homeopathy...I recently discovered its usefulness in treating my 9 month olds acid reflux/GERD. He had been on multiple different prescribed meds for most of his life and I never felt ok with that...especially after finding out that they were NOT approved for use in infants, they didn't work well and some contained phenylalanine, which is not ok in my book. It made me research other methods and I'm thankful for the homeopathic remedy helping him. :peace:

Sorry for the book....my main point in it all is that there is a negligible amount of the helenalin or of anything for that matter in the Arnica treatments...and regardless of that it does work to treat many peoples symptoms as evidenced by the centuries of use, testimonies of users and clinical studies. :2cents:

I lost both my folks to the C, and wished I'd had this for them. Hospice does wonders, but morphine has it's limits. And I relate more than you know to the SOB's that would prefer doing Chemo trials than easing pain. Houston has some great Docs, too bad most are more concerned about their next AMJ bombshell, as opposed to real care.

Mr Musturd, while I was using the X-strength cream on my hands, I left my shoulders alone, kind of as a yardstick for pain control. When I applied it to my shoulders, I stopped using it on my hands, again as a control.
Last night my fingers were getting stiff, did not treat with the cream, and the joint pain was returning. This morning, it was bad ( re-applied the cream awhile ago). I don't recall having such sharp pain before... I'm wondering if being able to use my hands more than I'm used to means that my joints and ligaments got more of a workout than they usually do?
A bit over an hour after dosing my hands, pain is backing off, flexibility is much better.

Hi Pher, I suspected helenalin to be the active ingrediant and beneficial though toxic is not new to herbal medicines. At my very brief look at Arnica Montana those 2 compounds caught my eye. As a simple bike mechanic it struck me quickly thyme oil is something I could make. Not sure about playing with helenalin.

Another interesting plant from mother nature for sure :smokebuds:
Everyone self medicates wether they know it or not.....

Quick question,
how many milliliters do you guys recommend? For someone who has never consumed medical cannabis in any shape or form

This would be to manage pain

Am I right 1 ml = .202 teaspoon? A 1/4 teas is usual start for no buzz. But it is better to start low as first effects will be minor as opposed to trippin out on a larger.

Wow .5 ml to start makes this stuff seem pretty strong. Lol
