Photoperiod Cannaficionado Grow Thread. (Organic)

Was in the tent today and a few nodes on the Slurricane #7 are shooting out preflowers. Not very many. But she's just about 5 weeks old as of tomorrow.

About 3 more weeks of veg and Im flipping these girls to flower.

Week 5 Veg New
Its a day late. But yesterday marked the end of week 5.

Slurricane #7 S1

I did a pretty heavy defoliation and partial lollipop on this girl. Spread her branches out more so light can get down to the emerging secondary branches from the 2nd round of topping hopefully over the next 3 weeks to a month those branches will catch up to the canopy amd I will be flipping to flower.

Having some definite problems, not sure what exactly but the pale leaf tips are back and theres one leaf on there thats pointing to sulfur deficiency but its the only extra pale leaf on the plant. So Im not really sure about it. Been thinking of ordering some elemental sulfur amd adding a ⅛ to 1/16th of a teaspoon when I feed for flower which is coming up in about 10-14 days. Im not sure if I should do that. But I definitely think I should foliar spray some magnesium. Im really starting to think the cal/mag ratio is way out of whack. After all my veg feed is 6% calcium and 1% magnesium and usually I see closer to a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio not a 6:1.

Forbidden Jelly

This plant is doing a little better but definitely showing signs of sulfur deficiency. All the new growth is coming in very pale and thats what's got me thinking sulfur deficiency on both plants. Once again I think its because my organic fertilizer doesn't have any in it, by now I think anything the soil was amended with is pretty much depleted.

Did the same defoliation and spreading of the branches. Only difference is because she's shorter by almost half a foot I haven't done a second round of topping.

Thats all for today thanks for stopping by

So I think I figured out what was wrong with my plants, and thats too much light. I raised my light to take pics for my weekly update and forgot to lower it back down. Today all the pale tips are almost fully green again, amd the one super pale leaf on the slurricane is completely green except for the brown spots it had. Same with the Forbidden Jelly. After I noticed this I used the photone app and got a NEW paper diffuser and sure as shit where my light was at before at 50% power was blasting the tops with 700+ppfd. With the nutrients not being balanced right I think it was just too much light. Sitting at 450-500 right now and plants look great

Veg Week 6 (as of Saturday. I forgot to post) New
Another week down. Plants are starting to not look so great. Forbidden Jelly seems to always be droopy and its hardly growing anymore, and the Slurricane #7 is showing a lot of interveinal chlorosis on the tops plus some brown spots popping up.

Ive just been giving them ph'd water when the pots are light, and some microbes once a week. The microbes have a little bit of food though so maybe thats causing problems its like a 1-.5-.5 or something and its got some iron and copper and molybdimum. Im wondering if they are starting to get hungry and I should mix in the flowering nutrients and flip over to flower. Might help a bit.

Took this pic 2 days ago after watering they look a tad worse today.

Flip to Flower (Day 47) New
This may prove to be a big mistake, but my plants are really looking like shit. The Forbidden Jelly is just droop city. Every single leaf is drooping and its not over or under watered, I think I just suck at maintaining organics. But just like every grow, right around now I have nothing but problems, and after the flip the plants perk back up and then revert to crap again by the end of flower so I guess we'll see how this plays out. The Slurricane #7 has interveinal chlorosis and marginal chlorosis on a lot of the upper leaves and rust spots coming in on older leaves.

Since I chose today to flip to flower I did a heavy defoliation on both plants. Also top dressed with 5 tablespoons of the 2-6-5 Flower Garden, and added 1/64 of a teaspoon of magnesium sulfate. The calcium in this mix is super high at 8% so I tried to offset it a bit. Even though Epsom salt is readily available, I figured mixing it in to the top dress will dissolve it slow enough to help offset the calcium a bit.

Heres the pics, first is both plants followed by the Slurricane #7 and the Forbidden Jelly

Ps. I think after this grow I will be working out some money and giving Build A Soil a go. Im not sure which soil Im gonna go with but I might just fork out the $450 to get the no till complete kit. Idk yet but I think a lot of my trouble is coming from my soil, and my nutrients. I think the combo created a pretty big imbalance, so Im just going to try and go for something completely tailored to growing cannabis.

Week 7 (end of week 1 of flower) New
I just realized I forgot to make my weekly update on Saturday again!

So its been about 7 days since the flip to flower and the girls are stretching like crazy. The Slurricane #7 has grown at least 4 inches in the past week. Before the flip they were about 1ft plus a bit more from the light and today they were about 2-3 inches from touching the light. The Forbidden Jelly isnt stretching as much but its growing at a consistent rate compared to her tent mate. Relatively the same height in comparison. I might have to put her on a stand so she gets even ppfd. Because right now she's about 6in shorter.

With that said I have raised the light to the top of the tent, and bumped the power up to 80%. May be a week or 2 too early to bump it up but Im trying to control the stretch as much as possible on the Slurricane, she's definitely stretching pretty close to a half inch per day right now. 3 weeks of that will have her needing supercropping and I really haven't done much supercropping. I know its nothing to be scared of and it may actually make the plant respond positively to that kind of stress, but its a, I dont want to if I cant prevent it, kind of situation.

Heres some pics, with them getting as big as they are now Ive kiddy cornered the plants in the opposite corners of eachother. Slurricane is still on the right, but now in back and Forbidden Jelly is in the front on the left.

Ive also been doing a shit ton of research on bioactive living soils and I think that Im going to pull the plug in October and buy the build a soil take and bake artisan soil building kit. Yes its 600 bucks but as far as I can see it will be worth the investment. It makes 70 gallons of soil that is basically good for a lifetime of use comes with a 100 fabric bag to do the mixing in, cover crop straw, organic inputs, and compost. You name it its there. Its a water only recipe and as far as I can tell besides adding some organic inputs every now and again to feed the biology in the soil you really dont have to do anything but keep it moist. I know its gonna take some practice to get it working right but I think after this grow Im gonna ditch the individual bags and get a custom grassroots living soil bed that will fit perfectly inside my tent. Their current bed that fits a 3x3 is exactly 3ft on both sides and my tent is only 35.5x35.5 so custom bed figure 34x34x1ft. I dont need the extra half foot in height. But that will be about 60-65 cubic feet of soil. So it will take almost the whole take and bake kit.

Thats all for today. Thanks for stopping by.

I messed up, after raising my light and bumping the power from 50% to 80% i forgot to put it back on schedule. A week after flipping to flower they got 36 hours of constant light 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️.

Gave her 24 hours of straight darkness to try and rebalance hormones. Will be keeping a close eye out for herms
