Hello All..new here and to growing...preparing for first grow and I'm losing my mind(again) trying to decide on a light...any suggests?

Depends on how much u wanna spend, and ur climate. If u live in a hot place LEDs are the way to go, if cold go hps as they will provide some heat.

Also be carefull with LEDs. U can get good and bad LEDs from ebay. If u want to be certain go a grownorthern. There is tones of info and i think they have a rep on this forum

Hey jazzed, I use T5 HO's throughout my entire grows

I'm new too and found them very easy to use, don't have to worry how close they are (closer the better) and they don't put off excessive amounts of heat

Depends on how many plants you want and other factors, I just grow for personal stash and for vegging my outdoor stuff soon

That all depends on how much money you have to spend. I have a California Lightworks Solarflare 200w full spectrum and love it so far.

I am of the opinion that LED is the future. I have a Prakasa and a Viper. Love 'em both. GN are super lights also. Good luck pal. Let us know what you decide.

Yup ^ ^ ^

Low power draw - high intensity - specified spectrum - very low heat output.

Hard to beat

Only down side is the Cal/Mag def. thing...but that's not completely unique to LED's

I'm losing my mind(again) trying to decide on a light...

I was in your shoes 9 months ago. I was struggling to understand so much -- I wanted to keep the lighting simple. t5ho is good. Not much to learn. Run a 4- or 6-tube unit in a 2' deep tent. In veg, do about 20% 2700k and 80% 6500k (color temperature tubes). Reverse those proportions in flower.

I've switched to LED, but there's a lot to learn. Also, LEDs seem to cause more calmag deficiency. And, they make it difficult to look at your plants and see a problem as it starts. You'll have to keep a CFL (clip-on socket and reflector) to view your plants in natural light -- and make a conscious effort to view them this way. As you gain experience, you'll see better under LED light. But, as a newbie, you'll definitely want natural light. Using t5ho eliminates that minor burden.

I grew my first auto <<link under 4 t5ho on top, 2 t5ho angled at 45 degrees in the back, and a couple 40 watt'ish warm CFLs on the side. I did pretty well. But, I didn't feel it penetrated enough during flower. (The lack of penetration was much more noticeable with photo sensitives which grew twice as tall.).

You could start with T5ho in veg. Buy a 90-135w UFO to supplement in flower. Go full LED after that. Although it might sound like a waste to buy stuff you imagine you won't use in 6 months, it's good to have some backup lights if/when your LED fails.

If I were brand new, I would buy equipment I could grow into, first you need to decide how much space and how big of a garden you want to keep. Then light it appropriately, adjustable ballasts are very effective for controlling heat issues, and you can always buy bigger bulbs or change them between veg & flower. Metal Halide & Hps for sure, you cant go wrong imho.:peace:
