Hey AFN I was hoping someone would have some ideas on how to quiet an inline fan ? I've seen the build a box and put it in or the control fan dial switch... any other ideas or .... just do one of those two options ?

Thanks for the tag bro..unfortunately,i open grow and have never used a IF...sry... Someone will be by to help ya out... Maybe @The Elvis can help

The silencers are very expensive but they do work. The biggest thing I think is controlling the speed. A larger fan at a lower speed is much quitter than a smaller fan at a high speed. An insulated box would help too

A buddy of mine has a shed he was thinking of throwing a 4/4 tent in come the nicer weather. He has neighbours close so needs to be as stealth as possible , if he's going to give it a try:d5:

Unless you can insulate/pad the area surrounding area/walls...not really you'll need to surround the fan itself. @Slater did a slamming job building a nice box for his if you check out his first grow. Not too complicated or expensive. Have you tried dialing the fan down to a lower CFM? They sell plug-in dials for fans if you don't have one yet, keep in mind this will of course reduce the amount of heat/moisture/etc in your grow area.

I have a control fan on mine and it's still a little loud. If it were me, I would build a box around it and insulate it within the box. Just a thought

I wonder how will a box would work .... I know there a few variables that would make the difference in noise ....

Oh and one other thing! I put my 440cfm 6inch in the crawl space outside of the grow closet/tent and I chose to hang it with strong wires from the rafters rather than screw it in, this way it is suspended in the air a bit and doesn't rattle/hum into the wood. Just a thought if your situation has any ability like that...definitely keeps my noise level waaaay down.

He doesn't have one but would be cool to go buy one . I figure there around 50$ but I have no idea as I've never used one myself

I was in his shed today I think that would work ... I'm a little jealous of the size he could run in there lol could do a 6/6 area or bigger if he wanted to lol
