the plants are looking g for now but they always do first 50 days later is problem time as far till now,and i have to say that youngest girl sour blues has exploded in last 4 days she 2x her size..

Some great info in this thread @Atulip + @LED Borg can i ask what makes the old mars 300w good? Or is it more so that its good for the price. 2 of those units delivered from ebay is only £100 so for £200 for 4 of them your getting close to 400-600w hid performance?
Pity you cant daisy chain them to save a mess of cables- or can you?

@sanguine .. about the older mars range,,i prefer the 3w units to the newer 5w models and still know dudes who still use them, one has 3 x 300w panels, other has 4 x 600w ones,. still going strong.
sure they need a service now and then,. stripping and cleaning, easy to repair when a led does pop. have had a few blues and IRs go, but a doddle to replace,, & sure they're old tech, but they work.
I think that's why some peeps like them, older tech is somewhat easier to upgrade/improve and repair.
its that crappy white transfer paste they put behind the leds that is the main culprit of overheating,. changing it for artic silver is so much beneficial but also so much faff.
all down to how involved with your panel you want to go, I could revamp an older panel and it would outlast any newer one cos they still use that white crap! lol
nifty how people are now stripping mars units and putting in their own stuff. LED Customisation at its best.
far far cheaper to use an existing older crappy led to upgrade than buying one that probably wont be any better, or worse.
Ive to date upgraded quite a few, Apollo's being my favourite, but now just have recently upgraded a bysen sp4 to a more white spectrum.
Me and a few others also improved a few other leds from china and helped with R&D with a lot more suppliers over here in the EU.
I aint gonna name names obviously but you can see our work on their websites.
I now see people doing it everywhere, about time too! lol.
so yeah bro, do your research, make your own mind up, plenty of proof now to help you.

just like to add that growing meds isn't just our main aim here with LEDS, much much bigger picture, on earth and possibly on mars. Google MARS ONE for a bit of a insight where leds will play their biggest part.
we also grow allsorts of plants, at the moment we have a university student growing orchids & succulents, aloe vera etc.. under a luminigrow dragon Osram unit, totally programmable for different intensity's at different times, orchids are fussy about that. lol.
Orchids are for the Chinese and dutch as they are getting very very interested in that and the succulents are for mars terraforming research.
very interesting stuff as you can imagine.
keep your eyes open for the new CNSA (Chinese national space association) space station which will be launching soon, also brimming with leds, anyone see the film gravity?
the clue is when the female astronaut is escaping through the Chinese space station, you can see rice growing under white leds on the left hand side.
China is changing, and for the better.

Peace.

lol makes you wonder now why LG called their growlights the Mars range eh? lol. coincidence? lol nahhhhhhh.
and for those who didn't know, look at the circuit board on the MarsII range, it should clearly state LG. Life sure is good! lol.

I think they are a great light.. You can not go wrong with a platinum
