Lighting Cob options

If i was you i would get a few heat sinks off ebay which i can dig a link out for...i have a meanwell hlg-185-c700a driver you could have for £40 and you could get 10 citizen 1212's from ebay for £90...run 8 of them on the heat sinks and youve got a good light...

Where have you been looking at getting the driver from? I found a few of the larger meanwell drivers at around 110 in the uk but alibaba is the best place for cheapness...

How about one of these per cob?

  • Type: LED driver transformer
  • Power: 90W
  • Input voltage: 175-265V AC 50Hz
  • Output voltage: DC 38V±5%
  • Input current: 660mA Max (220V AC)
  • Output current: DC 2.4A
  • Waterproof: IP67
  • PF: > 0.95
  • Efficiency: 89% TYP
  • Certificate: CE, RoHs
  • Body color: Silver
  • Material: Aluminum
  • Item size: 21.8 * 9 * 4.7cm
  • Net weight

I believe the voltage is too high at 38v you want around 35/36v depending on the COB and what current its going to be run at...

Check the link its pretty cheap..i recently used individual cpu coolers for my cobs but i wish I had just seen those large heat sinks as it would have saved a lot of hassle mounting them to a frame etc...

I dont know too much about the 1218 cobs but i know the 1212's perform well from what ive been told...others can chime in with much better info and knowledge than me...i just found these bits when i was building my own light...

It all depends how hard you run them on the driver...an example would be on a hlg185-700 you can get 8 COBs @ 700mA but on a hlg-185-c1400 you could have 4 COBs @ 1400mA...both drivers have the same power ratimg but can power different arrangements...at 700mA they will be more efficient but you need to obviously spend out a bit on double the COBs...

Its all a toss up between how much you want to spend really and how efficient you want it to run...
