I ran around today to find some coco and the only thing I could find was a coco mix and two very old bricks that were opened.

So I have to order online. I need some advice I was thinking of the Botanicare because I know that is what Jayar uses.
I also feel like I read that its better to not get the bricks.

So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I use Botanicare CocoGrow bagged coco as my primary coco.
I do use the Botanicare brick coco as well.
The brick coco requires a lot of physical labor to get it ready.
I only use the brick coco when using large containers(5 gallon+)
As far as ordering online goes... I'm sure brick will be far cheaper in regards to shipping.

Thanks dude. Im reading through all the coco threads and there seems to be a lot of opinions when it comes to brick or not and washing or not.

I've used Royal Gold and BioBizz coco. They both seem excellent products to me. Gold Label also seems high quality. And my hydro shop gave me a free "sample" full-size bag of General Hydoponic's CocoTek coco, which from what I've read is likely good quality [with GH apparently promoting a new coco-specific line of base nutrients and this CocoTek brand coco].

Manufacturing/distribution location (shipping costs) and company source are also something to consider. For example, if you're on the West Coast, US, you can probably get a better deal, if only on shipping, buying say Royal Gold or something else made regionally. BioBizz is made in The Netherlands and presumably a better buy (vs. a US brand) if you're in Europe. You might consider whether you want to go with a US or EU product vs. coco processed in Asia. Personally, I'd stick with a product made in the US or EU, and/or at least coming from a product line/brand known as being of overall good quality. Also, products with organic designations, such as OMRI, are likely to be of good quality.

I suspect by now, like anything, if you stick with your favorite or other trusted brand and do some basic Internet checking (problem products will be readily spottable), you'll almost certainly have a good outcome.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but I'd keep away from buying bricks.

I too have used royal gold omri coco. Shipping bags would be pricey. I am currently using gh coco brick. 2 bricks did 6 5gl redi root pots. Like Ronin said, "more labor intensive", for sure. Especially if you separate the pithy stuff out. Though it seems to help to leave some in if you are doing outdoors. Would help hold more water. Coco ain't hard. Get it wet. Plant seed. water an feed. Equals buds!

Hope that helps. Welcome to fish-worm growing with coco.
