Just curious for those out there that do grow with some dark hours either 18/6, 20/4 or outside, is it completely necessary to have plants in complete darkness? If a few low emitting lights are on in a grow room or area to work (but not directly above or around plants) will this have any effect good or bad? (how about moonlight?) Can I just set a plant in a corner of a room or under a patio in the shade, is this even necessary and if so at what times during the autos life? Please give your thoughts or experiences. Happy growing :pop:

Autos will do what they do with any light cycle the ambient light is no issue. But your question about the moon is funny to me cause I was thinking about that minutes ago, with photo period plants. I came to the conclusion (but I'm stoned mind you and did no actual research) that the light from the moon is lacking in a certain wave length for the plants to even recognize the light I figure it this way. If you put just one night in your flower room for photos for a few days a month simulating 4 or 5 days around the full moon (and I know here the moon gets pretty bright sometimes) you would be dealing with hermies all the time, while the moon has no affect. Even with 2 or 3 full moons while your plants flower

As HOT BUNZ said do not worry. they grow better IMO under 24 but that is my opinion. So You will not harm them with a little light hitting them i personally see no need to move them

its all about indoor and outdoor strains, and yes there is a difference, a strain bread outdoors under the light of the stars and moon will do far better outdoors then a strain bread indoors with total darkness during lights out, ive seen indoor bread strains never completely go full flower outdoors, they seem to be stuck in limbo between pre flower and fully flowering

so back to the OP, if your talking autos it should not matter, if you are talking photos it certainly does

Autos can be grown and do well growing in even 24hr light.

the moon is a cold light blue light you are colder standing in the moons rays then being under a tree go figure

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, being now that i have more work to do inside my grow area as i just started a DP white widow, blackberry and super skunk, I will feel confident a little residual light will do nothing to harm the growth. That being said I actually wouldn't mind doing a side by side comparison of same strain indoor vs outdoor. Has anyone tried this?

Also need help here? Can i still continue full grow under MH vs not switching to HPS or other way around? As i stagger my grows im seeing that the timing of changing lights wont work. Any ideas (plan b will be switch to LED lol)

If you are growing for yourself I vote for plan b. I don't grow indoors but when I can it will be LED without a doubt! there are some awesome looking bud growen under some LED on this site alone, unless you are growing for profit but if you have only one small grow area I doubt you are. And in just long term cost wise LED should be a no brainier if you really are as smart as you think you are (not trying to be snarky I just read your theoretical physicist thing)

Thanks Farmergreen, yes some days I feel as if I am dumbfounded, while other days everything makes perfect sense. lol. To answer your ? about profit...no this is only my personal grow and saving money is the idea...$1,000 later lol. I will shop around for LED it seems to be the obvious indoor grow method, wish I had done my research prior to purchasing MH/HPS - i was under impression these lights are the absolute best, apparently I was wrong, so lets go LED! Smoke on bro!

in the fall and spring I go 18/6, winter 24/0 and this is my first summer and it looks to be 16/8 maybe even 12/12, all due to being in the garage with no real climate control. nothing wrong with the HID, and nothing is the best to all people. I went with LED over heat concerns and cant complain about the results. I just grow for myself also and don't need massive yields.not to say I don't get yields with LED. I've been averaging 2oz a plant so far and don't sweat the $ spent. after awhile the money you save from buying street crap will pay you back tenfold. and you'll grow better smoke than they will ever get. and if your anything like me, you'll spend your savings on upgrades LOL
