Lots of hash.
I made a Hash Maker a while ago, and thought I would share.

It's very simple to make, really cheap & effective.

Basically you need:

* 1 Cardboard box. I used a decently constructed small box from a removal company. As you will be placing pressure on different parts of the box, then the better the initial product, the longer it will last you.

* 1 length of Silk Screen Printing Mesh. You can buy lengths of this from ebay, or online at only a few pounds. Just do a search for Silk Screen Mesh, and you will get what you need. They come in different Microns, or T count for this product. I have placed a conversion chart just below. Fairly sure I chose one in the middle of the pack, just to get the all round benefit. The larger the count, the more 'plant matter' will get through.

First you will need to cut the bottom off the box, roughly 2/3 of the way down. You now have the Top @ 2/3 and the Bottom @ 1/3.

Take the Top part, and cut the corners upwards about 1" (from the bottom). Now fold these inwards, so you create a small lip the whole way around the bottom of the box.

Take your Mesh, cut to size, and then stick securely to the lip of the box.

Get a little more cardboard, and secure this around the outside of the Top, making a downward lip. You should now be able to place the Top back onto the Bottom, and them both be fairly secure.

Now tape around the Top, so it is quite robust.

Get the Bottom part, and tape up with foil or paint with gloss. It will make finding the trichomes easier. Tape up the outside of the bottom part, so it is robust to.

Rather than have the trichomes fall directly onto the bottom, I usually cut a thick piece of clear plastic to the size of the Bottom, with an added lip. This way it all falls into the plastic, and you don't have to spend time & waste product trying to collect it.

Place the Top back onto the Bottom, and you should be ready to go. (I don't have any pics of making it, but here's some shots to help - sorry).

Usage:

For best results, you need to dry your trim REALLY well. Any little buds you put in need to be chopped, and broken apart.

You DON'T want everything to be like dust, but it all needs to be broken up to expose all the trichomes.

Once you have done that, take a decent handful and place on the mesh. You now need to rub this over the mesh, so the trichomes fall through. This is a skill in itself, and takes practice. Too soft & nothing falls through, too hard and you get loads of plant and green hash - not what you are going for.

Once you have rubbed it through, then remove it and put in a separate bag. Take your next handful and repeat.

It is up to you what you do with the used trim. Personally I have found that no matter how good you are at hand rubbing your hash, you do not get all the trichomes. This is due to the size of screen you are using, and if the plant you are processing has large trichomes then there will be worthwhile keeping. I store mine until I have enough to do an ISO run, but you could make butter, or something else.

Once you have ran your plants through the hash maker, you will have a load (hopefully) of golden trichomes resting on the plastic. All you need to do now is scoop all that goodness up, and process it however you want. Even just sticking some in a joint or bowl is lovely, but for me I love to make hash.

I put mine in a T-Bar press - Piecemaker. This is an expensive piece of kit, at usually £100 or about. Until I bought it I went through a press every few months, but this one has done me years. So, long term & for ease of use it is the best.

Put all your goodness in the press (if you can put it in a baggy first, or you will wreck the press eventually), screw down for pressure, and then put in front the fire to add a little heat. Come back in 30 minutes, and try to press down again, then repeat. Eventually you will not be able to screw it further.

Now wait until it all cools down again, and unscrew your press.

You should end up with something like this...

Hi, just thought I'd update the thread, with some shots of making Hash from the above box.

Here's some nice crystal just rubbed through the screen.

You need to scoop it up, and put into a decent plastic pouch. Make sure you use thick decent plastic, so it has no chance of breaking. We are going to put this in the press, rather than fill it directly with crystal, so it is not difficult to get out again. Without the cover you will ruin your press.

I use a small tea spoon for the job of collecting.

You can see that the crystal is trying to clump with the slightest pressure. This is a good sign of decent product.

Now get your press, and put the baggy in.

You then need to seal it up & press it down till you cannot do any more. Once I've done this, I usually put it on the fire hearth to heat up a bit. You want it to be warm, but not boiling. As the crystals warm up, you should be able to press a bit more. Repeat for an hour or two.

Let the press cool down, and then open. You should have a little puk like below.

This will come out cleanly, and you can put your press away again till the next time.

Now you can open the pack up. If you do this while the hash is still warm, then you can usually just break the puk in half with your hands. If you wait until it cools, then you will need a knife or something similar.

NEVER PUT YOUR HASH IN THE MICROWAVE TO REHEAT. Never even put a flame near it until you are smoking it.

Now you can start smoking. 7g of top hash.

Cheers, smokes nice to :) That run was actually from my ends jar, where I put all the tiny buds and bits from the pots I've finished. There was only maybe an ounce of beginning product, but it was proper crystally.

Normally I would use only the trim & smallest of popcorn bud (I mean small). To get 7g from trim you are talking quite a few ounces, never weighed it to be honest, but it was from about 12 medium sized plants (I have a contact who gives me his trim, and that's how many plants he has).

Never. Bad thing when you get free trim! I'll be looking into making a version of your DIY hash maker, I'm collecting all trim from every harvest I have, also my last plant mostly produced rubbish so all of that will go towards either dry sift or alcohol extraction. Not sure which yet but having the option to do both would be nice!

That's exactly what I do, dry sift first, then it used to be BHO. Good gas it too dear now, and no dry ice where I am, so alcohol is the only option. I loved gas as it was really quick, compared to alcohol.

You would be surprised how much is still left, as the dry sift microns may not let through all of the heads depending on the size you choose.
