Do some auto's need 12/12 to flower properly?

Comet79:

@autobeast has been growing autos for years with stellar results. don't judge autos by seeds of unknown quality. Not only that don't be impatient you may still have great results if you just let them do their thing. Give those plants some love.

Ps. cooler temperatures can slow growth dramatically.
these are not 'unknown quality'..or maybe I just don't know what that means. The quality of critical kush auto is supposed to be great, but it doesn't appear to be the case in my situation. Same with cash crop that I grew..gorilla seeds claims some 20% thc..it felt like I smoked a cigarette. Its why I cancelled my order with mephisto as they to have outrageous thc claims, but up to now..i have not had one auto that comes even close to a photo plant in terms of potency, they are simply not worth the smoke at all. Thx for the help guys!

I've ran a few auto's to date, and all were of poor quality. one lemon something, it didn't say what or who the breeder was, was semi decent, and rqs easy bud was frosty and dense, albeit small. Others were king tut auto's, bubble gum auto, northern lights auto, blue mammoth from barney's, auto masszar from critical, cash crop, all were decent size, but not potent at all, the 12 zips from a blue mammoth and masszar from the summer I cant give away for free as I think a cigarette creates the same buzz lol. All 4 photo's to date have been top notch. Im thinking auto's are as described..far weaker, and a touch faster..though the ones im growing now will take much longer and way more electricity to finish than a photo and quantity and quality will be useless! lol Live and learn I guess:)

Keep in mind that auto seeds created from a photo parent will not be true autos. Most reputable breeders work their autos until they are in the 90% range before release. Some don't. So every now and then someone may get a seed that doesn't have the autoflower gene. Mephisto actually has documented lab test results for some of those claims. Their IG account has lab test results that other growers have submitted as well.

Thx for the heads up. I was thinking the same..everyone says that auto's need 18-20 hours of light, because they are auto's..but I always thought..wait..they're not strictly auto's..they only take the auto gene from the ruderalis plant, but the other half is not auto, so maybe the light cycle does matter on some. I've seen too many 'lab results' from breeders over the past 2 years, and none of them pan out for auto's. Mephisto could be different, but having been screwed over so many times by others..i wont trust another auto..will finish these or let them finish themselves off and will stick to photo's exclusively as they have never presented a problem. The auto's ive tried from cream of the crop, dr krippling, critical collections, and barney's farm have all been worthless.

These are not photo's, they're auto's. They have been flowering, but extremely slow like no other's prior..in week 8 and top buds and colas are smaller than popcorn bud. I figured the way the photo critical kush looked, that these would be comparable, but not even close! Top growth is super skinny as well, and one kush Is still stretching. Never had an auto behave like these. Temps are fine, mid 70's with lights on..68-70 with lights off..though ive never heard of temp variations affecting flowering. I'll put them in 12-12 for a week or so to see what happens, I have nothing to lose I guess, as they will end up in the trash the way they are lol. These were free seeds sent to me, im guessing since they were free, they are likely poor quality, then again, ive read many times that auto's are very unpredictable and they have no rhyme or reason to the way they grow. I had an order placed with mephisto, but cancelled it today, i'll focus on regular photo's as auto's don't seem to be that strong in growing.
big mistake cancelling ur order of mephisto. id say there the most solid auto genetics to be considerd amongst others. really special autos everytime.u gota adapt to autos be patient indeed. will all pay off. autos and there genetics are the way forward. happy growing every1 ;)

autos are no diffent to a normal cannabis plant other than they flower on there own. and alot faster than a photo plant. true shit!! happy growing;)

The best source for strain information IMHO is en.seedfinders.eu What I mean by unknown quality is that you said they were freebies. Even if the seeds came in a breeders sealed package every seed is individual in it's genetic DNA. I have planted 6 seeds from the same Breeder, strain and package and got 6 different phenos. Freebies often come repackaged by the vendor, do you think they may ever be stoned when doing that and mixed shyte up? That is what I am saying. I have found that in order to get even close to the advertised THC strength I have had to add UVA/UVB light for at least the last 3 weeks of ripening and before I got a good lupe I was harvesting too early. Since correcting these growing techniques my weed is so much better. Some of my friends even call it fire. The strongest weed I have grown in the past couple of years is the Zambeza Blueberry Auto, even stronger than the Dr. Krippling Incredible Bulk (photo).

Thx for the replies. I will keep buying different auto's and lights and mediums to try all of them..i've heard nothing but the greatest stories about auto's, and will grow them forever because i've always had great results!!!

It is very dependent on breeder, and phenotype. If you want to know for sure about auto's try the Mephisto AVT before you give up on it. The less light hours you give them the slower they will grow, they do not have the same flower trigger as a photo. In fact no one knows scientifically what triggers the flower in an auto. They can be forced to flower with about 80% success by dropping to 12/12 but in a few that trigger doesn't work anymore. If it is already flowering, dropping light schedule will do nothing but slow them down, or worse make them hermie.

I have had one auto that finished in 60 days, the rest have mostly been 70-90 days, and a couple over 100. They will take longer the bigger the pot you give them, or the bigger the rez. They take longer if they are stunted, or have the wrong pH, or many factors.

How long since flower started? Do you have a pic for us? If the flower development stopped, there is a reason for it, and the reason is not likely the plant genetics since you say are large and healthy, it's environmental.
