Do you all think geography/climate/ ecology play a big role in marijuana's effects? Or is it mainly the strain or breeding?
If I grow one of the older established strains in different areas of the world, will the effects of that strain reflect the location/ecology of those growing sites?
Will the taste be different? Will the color of the buds be dfferent? Will the smell be different? Will the high be different?

I've often had this thought as well.

I'd have to say yes. How could it not really?

Interesting stuff.

I can tell you that flavour and smell can be affected just from one grower to another, last year I grew grapefruit kush from clone. its a strain I know well, the person I got the clones from has been using the same mother for a few years now. He uses the full AN line up for nutes and grows inside. I’m all about organic and grow outside. My GFK was way diffrent then his, once it was dried it smelled dead on a grapefruit being sliced open when it went in the jars. the affect was a little different too, but I attribute that to me having to chop early due to the weather.

I've got no where near the scientific knowledge to know, but it would make sense to me. Plenty of examples in the fruit/veggie world to make me believe it would be so. Rocky Ford Cantelope, Florida Oranges, Hatch New Mexico chillies, etc...etc... All seem to taste just a smidge better when grown in or around there name sake locations.

Cannabis is like any other plant, it shows response to environmental changes, from soil, climate and so on.
This is why landraces vary so much, for example in Mexico there are many local pools with different characteristics mainly influenced by humidity and temperatures, same applies for any part of the world, Thailand, Colombia, India... the selection is driven by the environment and growers' perception of what works better in their environments. Hard to believe one would select an afghani type of plant/bud in the tropics:)

I found this "product guide" very interesting(Spanish only):
