New Grower donkeykong's grow cabinet

hey DK! just seen your progress.

regarding a couple questions -- ill do what i can to answer them and provide you with link and such.

----

Also, this is the lamp I've just bought, great value for money

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dual-125w-Hydroponics-Grow-Light/dp/B009W6MIOY

Recieved it within 24 hours of ordering as well.

(If you've got the extra cash, get the 300w)

this lights posted by rivalfish is a good choice
a cheaper alternate would be the 23w-46w household cfl (e27 connection)
link to basic cfl info: https://www.autoflower.org/f103/light-easy-basic-cfl-info-13718.html

i started with those in my pc case for 2 grows -- just recently upgraded to a led

since you are looking @ LED (this is probably the best option in your case.

here are a couple of links regarding them
1) led direct from china (if you feel like taking a risk): https://www.autoflower.org/f102/leds-direct-china-15081.html
2) if you are in the states you can check out some BLACKSTARS: https://www.autoflower.org/f102/blackstar-manual-13731.html
3) just remembered reading that you are un UK :o-- here is the GROWNORTHERN: https://www.autoflower.org/f109/grownorthern-manual-13528.html

i linked you all those 3 threads because they can/will help you decide on your choices without limiting you to one company.

now for my concers:

i dont see a way for air exhange?!
- intake (are you planning on just leaving the doors cracked?)
- exhaust (how are you planning on taking our the heat and get fresh air in?)
- carbon filter (ofcourse all those plants are going to smell)

----

looking forward to your future development! sorry about the long respond.

:smokebuds:

Thanks RivalFish!
Link looks interesting also. I guesse I have a day or two to collect some feedback and get a plan together or buy some time if the led spots will work. otherwise maybe a grow shop reachable has some LED units on display, might check- try call around.
In the meantime I have some fans on order for the in & out air ports, and Im going to replace one of the cabinet doors with a custom one (so to avoid cutting up the oringinal cabinet door!) to include the ports. Plan is to drag fresh air from outside through some ducting and output it out ithe top into my room. I'll prbly stick a carbon filter on the output air later in the grow.

Thanks Herbal.Experience.
Just saw you posted while i was typing. Still we were thinking the same things since I was getting on the plan with venting :)
Hopefully the plan sounds Ok on that respect now?

sounds like a plan!

Also yes I was already thinking about dispensing with the smell. I had some experience with carbon filters since I have a parrot and two almost medical grade air filter unit which have activated carbon filters. It makes life safe for his sensitive lungs and also gets rid of the copious dander that goes with the grey for the rest o us. Ive googled about getting activated carbon to build into a custom thing before.
So, ill probably filter that air on its way out the cabinet (doors generally closed). I can switch to two higher speed 12V fans, I have a couple real fast ones I used doubled up in push / pull across a watercooling radiator. Pretty sure those two in that config can drive enough air through a filter fast enough to get rid of heat also. Lets see, I guesse I can tinker with it as I go :)
Then in the room as a whole I'll put one of my big ass air filters. At max it will prbly clear a room out totally in minutes, so I will leave it on a low setting when its near silent also. Hopefully it deals with any smells ok.

Where can I read more about this 32oz comp?? Peakin' my intrist!...

Looking good so far, think you are on your way to happy days bro..

too bad for work today, I couldn't stop thinking about my project.
I did manage to make a few calls and find a hydro shop with different led lights. bit of a drive but I dont mind since quite helpful and seems like experienced grower. told im ok with my spotlights for some days, till I can get over there and see what they have anyway so that's the plan, I should have something better later in the week.
Seeds should be here by tmrw so I can finally get started !

So tonite I mounted my spots up, seems really bright. 4 of these light up the lounge, so 5 in here, is probably like 250W of standard lights I guesse :)

Seemed like forever waiting but the postie dropped off the seeds earlier. I was able to stick them in to soak in some water quickly. I got some 1 litre pots and put a layer of cling film inside one so I could fill it with 32fl.oz of water and take a mark.
Then using that I clipped around the top of the pots to get left with a set of 5 containers that take 32fl.oz each to the rim.
I've filled them with 40% soil so they have some vitamins to go on, then 40% coco and 20% vermiculite, so keep it nice and airy. Not so high tech but hopefully it gets a good result.

Once they have a chance to soak the plan is to put them straight in the pots and let them have the light.

Probably Ill go see moneytree hydro about gettings some lights on thurs, other than that I've started on the replacement cabinet door, which I can then mount the in/out fans to, they could arrive tomorrow I think.
Other topic for me was the turntables these things will be on, I think Im better off making a custom thing for it since what I can find online is quite overpriced. I have a while to figure it out anyway since it wont make much difference to tiny plants I reckon.

The other things I got hold of in the meantime, pH and EC meters and some pH up/down. Just as well since I had to pH down the tap water before dunking the seeds and watering the pots.

Watching the clock now then they can go in to the pots :)
