Mephisto Genetics Double grape germ

DG today-Day 24. Topped on day 22 at the 5th node which is 11” tall.
I’m running cheap lights, scratch made dirt, & humidity in the single digits at times, so no issues or dissatisfaction with the Mephisto crew. Bags are 7G.

She’s just not nearly as vigorous as the others under exactly the same conditions.

First post. I just dropped four double grape seeds two days ago. I use the glass of water method until I have a 1/4 inch taproot. Three of the four seeds have cracked and a tiny taproot is emerging as of this morning. Fourth one looks swollen but not sure its going to germ.

@DeeDoubleYou, welcome to AFN! I'm looking forward to how you do on this run.

:pimp:
Thanks, I'll most likely be starting a thread once they sprout. BTW all four of mine have taproots now, they will be ready to go in tonight/tomorrow morning. I'm going straight to 5 gallon phat sack/roots original soil and myco powder. Using water bottle plant domes

I should add that 6 of those 15 were Double Grape and that before I switched to the germination method I use now I had all sorts of problems getting reliable germination regardless of the breeder. The only other thing I do besides soak till they crack and plant them is put a humidity dome on until the plant has 3-4 nodes.

What humidity dome do you use? Even the tallest one I could find won’t allow them much lost the 2nd node unless they’re runts

By the way, opened this thread because I had some issues with germ rates on another strain. Then I was going to post in the customer service thread, but I see they’re shut down

I had issues with some germ rates 4 out of 5. So, I popped the last two since I’d already traded some away, one was fine, the other a runt. I was going to reach out to them, but figured I’d do so on my next order. At this point I had no idea what Mephisto’s policy with non germs was. Though I tried to look it up on their site. Order is placed, I order more jammy dodgers and others, then contact customer service to tell them I’d had some issues, expecting to get a follow up questions or the like, got nothing other than that automated message that someone would be with me.

A week later I’m about to place another order, so I follow up. A day or two later (I’ll paraphrase for brevity) “you got freebies”. Not “tell us a little more about what happened”, no “I’m sorry you had an issue”. So, I’m a little irritated, but I shrug it off for the most part. Valentines rolls around, I order up again on Monday, even order the special pack, then I see I’ve got 15 freebies but I’m just away from 20, so I order up more packs and it hits 25 freebies on the little banner, which is more than I thought I’d get.

Order arrives, I open the V day pack, there are 5 freebies in there, so I’m thinking, awesome, I wonder if I’ve got another 25 or 20 in the other bad. Freebies are fun, but I have so much to pop that I probably won’t get to them for a long time, they’ll more than likely be traded. So, I’m left being shorted 10 freebies, being given nothing in exchange for either my bad luck, or their errors, and with already having had a bad experience, I’m not about to go filling out their customer service form again.

Customer service isn’t that difficult to be solid at (ask what the issue is, at least appear to be apologetic no matter how much you don’t want to deal with the issue) but it takes some effort to be good or bad. This is how businesses lose customers, and what they don’t know is that they’ve already lost two orders from me. I wanted to get the 24k, Walter White, and Orange Diesel along with a reup on the NCH. I had them in my cart and than changed my mind or blew off the release. I also was going to do an entire tent of Mephisto and do a big grow diary, but now I popped many other breeder in place of Meph strains.

However, maybe it’s an ideology problem, not a customer service problem. Whatever it is, from all I’ve seen and heard, Mephisto is losing a lot fans and potential revenue over this kind of stuff. I’m not lost, but I won’t be singing their praises again nor loyally buying as much. I’m pretty certain others would have given up by now, and I know some have. This over a few beans just seems like bad business.

Yea I’m seeing a trend of horrible customer service lately. Hopefully they remedy the issue. I’m too new at this to blame genetics for two of my four seeds being duds despite starting taproots

I think you are taking this way too personally. They are a very small company and they work hard. With Dinafem and Dutch Passion MIA they are easily one of the very best guardians of fine autoflower genetics out there. Since I graduated from beginner grower, I have never have germination issues with Mephisto seeds, or really any seeds as long as they were fresh and or well stored.

To answer your question about the humidity dome, I just cut the middle out of the dome from an old cloning tray. Then I just overlap the pieces to fit the size of the pot. I also only use it in the winter when the humidity it very low, less than 30% RH. And when I do use it I place a small hygrometer inside the dome and I remove it as soon as the rh gets above the mid 60s. I think rh being too high is what ruins more germinations than it being too low. If the rh is too low seeds will almost always still sprout if they are viable, just start a bit slow. If the rh is too high then the seeds get water logged as soon as they crack. They must be damp, but not wet and warm but not hot. Seeds are all like a little Goldie Locks, they need it to be “just right”. Anyway, I think your problem is possible caused by keeping up humidity too high, and not the other way around.

Good luck!

This is what happened to my two duds. They sprouted taproots but I left in cup of water too long, they rotted. I dug them up after I planted four and two popped soil 24 hours later. I waited four more days and nothing so I had to investigate.
