Mephisto Genetics Double grape germ

Well I'll Def let you know of what happens with mine. It'll make or break if I order anything from them again too. Thank God the order I placed Sunday wasn't anything from then lol

Since I'm a new canna grower, all my seeds are fresh. I think I've only had 3 or 4 duds and I do think it was my fault....planting very high.

I rough up the seed by shaking it in a rolled up section of sand paper so it will absorb the water better and put it a cup of water. Got a heat mat last fall to help with germ and sprout. Usually a split within 12hrs and a tail showing well within 24. No longer and no paper towel or coffee filter.

I'll make some Double Grape seeds this next run. I gave a friend a Double Grape and let him use one of my EarthBox Jrs. He set up the EB himself from my instruction and direct planted, He's nailing it pretty damn well. She started her natural fade about a week ago. She looks like a big Sour Stomper with a bit more leaf to bud, bigger calyx and not quite as hard buds. Massive main cola, hides my big hands and the outer colas are pretty big too. She's drinking a gallon in less than 24 hrs even at this late stage of 64-65 days with bud bulking up VERY nicely. Probally 10-15 days left going by the fade. Buds a getting a blueish tint. I think an easy 10oz plus dry.
I think Jrs are the best size. I really don't think she'd be much bigger in a Regular EB to be worth giving up the space.

It’s not personal in the least, they have great genetics, but so do a lot of other people. I like to connect a little with the companies I support and feel like they appreciate my business a little when I have an issue. I have not had issues with germ rates on anything else from them, nor from anyone else other than green point ‍♂️ So yeah, haven’t had issues either, which is why this was curious and why I actually contacted them. Mephistos response and the way it was delivered sort of implies that I did something wrong. It’s not a big deal, I’ve spent around $1000 on Mephisto beans in the last few months, if they’re not going to take care of issues with any promptness or regard then I’ll just be more likely to buy from another talented breeder.

Automatically acting like it’s your customer’s issue when they have an issue, whether you’re big or small, old or new, is not a good way to earn loyal customers.

I think you are taking this way too personally. They are a very small company and they work hard. With Dinafem and Dutch Passion MIA they are easily one of the very best guardians of fine autoflower genetics out there. Since I graduated from beginner grower, I have never have germination issues with Mephisto seeds, or really any seeds as long as they were fresh and or well stored.

To answer your question about the humidity dome, I just cut the middle out of the dome from an old cloning tray. Then I just overlap the pieces to fit the size of the pot. I also only use it in the winter when the humidity it very low, less than 30% RH. And when I do use it I place a small hygrometer inside the dome and I remove it as soon as the rh gets above the mid 60s. I think rh being too high is what ruins more germinations than it being too low. If the rh is too low seeds will almost always still sprout if they are viable, just start a bit slow. If the rh is too high then the seeds get water logged as soon as they crack. They must be damp, but not wet and warm but not hot. Seeds are all like a little Goldie Locks, they need it to be “just right”. Anyway, I think your problem is possible caused by keeping up humidity too high, and not the other way around.

Good luck!

This is from when I popped the Jammy Dodgers, went 0-5 or 0-6 with green point, you know the JD2 story, and no other bean had more than 1 not sprout. This is out of roughly 200 seeds between two rounds of cracking. By no means am I saying that there’s a problem with Meohisto’s beans, just with the way they handled my issue, and perhaps that pack, or maybe it’s simply bad luck.

If they were responsive or had handled things a little different, I wouldn’t be wasting my time defending myself or writing these threads. Also, as a business owner myself, I want customers to speak up when they have issues.
