Mephisto Genetics Double grape isn’t very grapey?

I've searched for and bought a lot of souvenirs over the years, some simply for reputation, some because of a strains "reported" smell or flavor....
I've finally decided most claims are just merchandising terms used to create more sales and seldom reach an advertised result....but I remain hopeful even with some hyped breeders appear to be pushing out inconsistent strains by exaggerated claims .... I understand different phenos but does that actually explain some poor results?
Being a small grower, starting 3-5 plants per month, I'm always adjusting the que, of course based on previous grow results. Appears some of my collection is falling to a lower tier selection but I still love growing my weed and searching....
Just finished a ghost toof, double grape, northern cheese haze, 4 assed monkey.....if they weren't labeled, they were hard to differentiate in looks, smell or taste...all were good smoke but I do wish they'd actually be close to advertised.

For the most part you're right. The difference is small. But it is there. Double grape does not look like say white crack (dried buds), 4 ass monkey smells and taste different than white crack. Maybe we gotta look at it like beer. There are many different styles and flavors but in the end it's just beer.

If you are trying to find legit phenos of clone only strains you will never find that in autos . I've pretty much only been growing cannaventure seeds this last year . 1 gram of some of these plants stinks harder than any oz of mephisto I have ran. Every now and then you will find some not great phenos but my quality of bud has drastically improved since I went to photos. And you can surely get closer plants to the parents . autos are all back crossed to breeding autos . you don't add water to your whiskey do ya ?

So you have only done 1 breeders photo plants for a year and have determined thst all photos are better than all Autos? Have you ever given thought thst you have become a better grower snd thst coukd be why your results are better? What did you use to grow your Mephistos? Nutes, medium, pot size ect? Photos eat differently, so your feeding could also be more appropriate to Photos vs Autos. Which Photo strains have you grown thst are superior? When you buy seeds from a breeder you are at the mercy of their choice of phenos when making the seeds. Just because something is a photo, does not mean it is "closer to the parents". The amount of times you refine your strains will determine the consistency and decrease # of phenos. Also, plenty of Autos are STRONGER than Photos. You told me all of the Mephisto strains smelled and tasted similar to each other. May I ask which Mephisto strains you did? Did you do any other Auto breeders work? Which other Photo breederd have you used? Obviously some breeders are better and some strains used can be superior...even if they claim to be the same. For example, if you want a C99 cross...Mosca Seeds Photo strains are going to be better than a Fast Buds C99 cross because he has worked the genetics much more. Breeding photos is much easier than Autos and when you find the keepers you can clone them and keep them forever. Is it possible to have Photos that smell stronger? Surely. But plenty of Autos smell better than Photos. Really glad you inproved your game and if photos helped...that is awesome. Bith have advantages and disadvantages and we need to find what is best for our individual needs. Peace, slow

I agree my DG was very citrusy and almost pure orange. But my GhostToofs were so loud they almost got me evicted. Even a year later when I crack the jar I am now grateful it has been legalized because this shit reeks. You take the good you take the bad and in the end you know it’s just the “facts of life” the facts of life!

I just remembered that I made some DG x SODK. In retrospect they smell similar and should pair well. I also crossed it with my homemade Zamaldelica express x Malawi x NL F1 (which was as different terpene wise as could be) that shit should be interesting as well as a DG x Zamaldelica which is actually grapier (?) than DG. I may have crossed her to Fugue and Hubbabubbasmelloscope too. I was shucking all the pollen I could as I only had one seed of DG to play with. I had been hearing a lot of good things so I figured why not. Very frosty for sure although my pheno was a little bit blah ( I am spoiled too) even grown in TLO soil that has been cooking for 11 months.Irregardless she is a frosty potent easy to grow autoflower that if she was my first plant I would be as proud as can be. Some of us have turned into rootie tootie pot snobs. After growing for as long as I have you better have your shit together. Lol 31 years as of next month. I was lucky and had a great mentor right from the start who was already growing potent Dutch strains from seed and breeding too.

I think one point that hasn't been brought up is how the differences in grow style and micro climate will affect the smells and terp levels. Everything that comes out of my personal home grow smells sweet and fruity, occasionally a little gas. Is that because I am growing at very high altitude with little to almost no humidity? That's a drastic difference then someone growing at sea level with high humidity, it wouldn't surprise me that two similar plants would smell completely different.

Humboldt is known as one of the best places int he world to grow cannabis due to their unique micro climate. Why don't we ever discuss the micro climates of our personal home grows? Just curious.

I havent grown double grape in a few years so I don't have a recent opinion on the terp profile. I can tell you though that everything else I have grown lately has been pretty spot on with terps and smells.

Jammy dodgers tasted like a strawberry milkshake, or those little strawberry creme savers that were popular in the the 2000s.

Sour Stomper x Strawberry Nuggs smelt like rotting strawberris, almost a fermented fruit smell.

Orange Diesel smelt and tasted of peppery orange peels.

Mango smile had a very powerful citrus aroma. I wouldn't say its 100% mango, but different then some of the orange smelling strains we produce.

Ghost toof - sweet tart candy

4 Assed Monkey - I grew one pheno that is the loudest and semlleiest grape smell and flavor I have encountered

Again maybe my grow rooms conditions leads to more pronounced fruit smells and flavors? Thats my sort of hypothesis at least.

How are you feeding your plants? This is another factor in how well the Terpenes come out IMO. Organics tend to bring out more Natural terpenes IMO. Peace, slow

Buildasoil living soil, water only feed. Occasional tea and foliar feed. Keep it real simple for the home grow, I am a very busy man.
That is why your terpenes are true to the sescription. My LOS grows are far superior to my Coco plants in the smell department. I also find Organic buds to have a more Velvet type feel on freshy dried nugs vs having more Dried feel to them, different texture even after vaporizing the Organic ABV feels diffefrnt than Coco grown buds ABV texture.

I just want to mention this. Even after a couple months, my DG didn’t have much grape smell/taste compared to Sour Stomper, as I commented toward the beginning of this thread. However, a couple more months have gone by (she has been curing for 6 months now) and surprisingly, the grape smell is now much more pronounced, right on par with Sour Stomper and Grape Walker Kush. I have never grown anything that took more than 3 months of cure to fully bring out the true flavors/smells. Good things come to those who can wait.
For the record, I am an organic soil grower at sea level.
cheers
os
