Lighting DP Auto Ultimate under GN HS1 (60 x 60 diffuser)

I already do position it directly below the diffuser. It popped out the soil with a slight bend (see day 1) which became more pronounced as the rest of the stem started growing out straight. Since the last photo I'm pleased to say it's started to straighten out. :D

Then 50cm should be giving enough light, I think that is what Grownorthern recommends. Mr Grimreefer mentioned that he thought his light needed to be closer. Maybe HS1 LEDs vary a little, maybe different strains want more light. I dunno.

If you dig into this discussion:

Your eyes may bleed, but after 12 pages you will find this:

We are producing detailed graphical instructions for this at the moment but in general and for a quick reply the first 3 diffusers should be used between 50-25cm from top canopy adjusting for optimal intensity and spread. In flowering you generally want the lights to be 30cm above plants with level canopies and for untrained plants you want the lights angled into the canopy at a distance that gives you the best surface area coverage.

Oh, basically what Mr TaNg said. :worship:

Hay guys, the lights may vary a little with the different diffusers but in my experience it's defiantly strain/pheno dependant, not many will stretch to a HS1 at 50cm, I've actually got a light at 60cm above some 4 day olds at the moment. I've got the light higher this time so it acts as side-light to some neighbouring flowering plants, this light has the 90x60° and there is no stretching at all.......saying that there is another 2 lights in the room.

I just felt it looked a bit lanky, especially when I compared it to pics of my previous grow at this initial seedling stage, same strain. Whilst not as outwardly bright as my 250w hps, I'm in no doubt as to the quality of this light. For my small space It's more than adequate. I'll see what effect lowering it slightly will have.

I'll be taking delivery of a dehumidifier tomorrow. :)

Day 11

Haven't been able to get on here for a while, but better late than never for an update! :D

Thought I'd throw in a pic of my grow setup too. I bought a mini-dehumidifier but if I'm being honest it hardly makes a dent. It has to compete with the extraction fan which I think makes it less effective than it otherwise would be. The adapter also gets quite hot so I'm not comfortable leaving it plugged in while I'm not in the house. It has collected a tiny amount of water from the air, but typically RH is between 50 and 60% most of the time, occasionally peaking to around 70. The reading you see in the pic below is a false reading where I poked my sweaty head in from cycling! lol It shot up 5% in under a minute.

I'm hoping that during this veg stage the RH won't be such a problem, but during flower I'm going to need to get it down. Hopefully this muggy weather will have pissed off by then! I just started to introduce nutes this morning at half dose. The first pair of real leaves are a bit scraggy, but otherwise she seems to be doing well. The growth since this morning is ridiculous! :D

Can you lower the RPM of the extraction fan? I dropped my extraction way down and got a CO2 meter to make sure the plants still had get enough fresh air, they are fine.

Unfortunately no. It's a fixed speed. Had the dehumidifier on all night and still RH was 69 when I checked this morning. I'm having to water every other day because the soil is still damp from previous day. I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue if the air were drier.
