Hi All, I am currently on my second grow and would like to know if in DWC the plant will start eating there own leaves as when I see soil grows the leaves always tend to do this when the plant and buds are ripened to perfection, I would like to give this a shot and harvest when I get to this stage but I don't really ever see DWC grows that get to that stage so is it possible or will I just ruin my buds waiting?

Yes this happens but it isn't a reliable harvest indicator.

You need to evaluate the trics, and other things. A plant might not yellow depending on nutes or genetics or something else!

What f6 said, I've had dwc plants turn yellow at harvest due to a flush and I've had other start was super green. With 3 weeks of plain water. Other strains start to yellow 2 weeks into flower. Checking tricones is the only way to really tell if she is ready.

@Free Flow @fettled6 Thanks guys, yeah I am checking trics but still find it difficult to know exactly how long I have left, for instance some of the nutes I'm using need to be used at certain times during the grow and I'm never sure exactly where I'm at and how many weeks left

I am looking for these things:

Early signs of maturing:
-Decreased usage of solution
-Decreased feeding in general (EC needed to be adjusted lower)

Later signs:
Pistils turning brown
Plant "eating itself up" signs on leaves as if it would be falltime.
Tricomes turning amber

Typically I harvest when I start to see around 10% amber tricomes but this varies depending on preference. Its just a harvest window and not a deadset time.

Thanks Med, yes I'm looking out for all these signs but if you want to harvest at 10% amber when would you start to flush, when all are cloudy? Going off track a little but how long do you flush for in DWC if at all? Problem is on first run I didn't get any amber and knew I was pulling her a couple weeks early as I needed the meds but this grow I'm in the lucky position of still having a stash so I want to harvest this one when buds are fat and ripe with about 20% amber but I have no idea at this point how long I have left, I'm thinking 3 weeks but still probably only 40% hairs have turned brown and all clear trichs

I make it easy for you bro. I don't flush as it does not affect the end result. @pop22 wrote an awesome article about this some time ago in myth busting section. It just makes a whole lot of sense.:pass:

Yeah I read that article and have been researching it which is why I asked, I have canna flush which I might just use with water for 1 day and then harvest her, so the hard ash is due to not drying and curing correctly and chemical taste is from overfeeding right and nothing to do with not flushing? It has never really sounded right to me as the buds will still have nutes in them whatever you do surely?

If you must flush (I do)

Flush for like 3 days, then 2 days of dark and then euthenise your plant.
