There are good reasons why we don't recommend topping and FIMing. It takes the plants anywhere from a week to 2 weeks to get back to normal growth and in the end, they usually produce about the same as plants that weren't topped. Looking at your plant at day 40, it's at about the same development stage as most of mine are at around day 30 or 32, so about a week behind. Take that time and multiply it out over a year and you've almost got enough time for another whole grow. In the long run you will get more from that extra grow than you will from any gains you might achieve by topping them. This has been proven time and again by myself and many others who have tried these techniques. Of course topping will keep them shorter and bushier, which can be a consideration if you have limited head room. LSTing is a better option in that case since there is no lose of time while the plants recover.
