Grow Mediums feeding style with coco

...Carl, from what I'm reading, short answer is yes! Coco is a very specialized medium, with unique properties that make it far different from even other soilless media like Promix (peat based),... coco has odd CEC behavior, involving Ca, Mg and K in particular,... Do some research on it..if it's treated like soil or even Promix, problems are all but certain! A good place to start is Canna.com, premier coco/nute company; look for articles Growing in Coco and Problem Solving in Coco especially,... One thing I know for sure is to never use just plain water! It will screw up the buffering (not pH mind you) of the Ca-Mg-K balance... coco binds Ca, and to a lesser degree, Mg, to it's particles- greedily- and until it's sated, keeps it from the plant,... coco has native K in it, and there's complex exchange going on with Ca, Mg and K, which is why flushing or even watering with straight water is a no-no! Always have at least a weak nute solution, even 300ppm will do,.... Yeah, in coco, less is more for pot volume! #gal is almost overkill, most folks run 1-2.5 max, at least with drip systems,...Over 3, and you get the slow drying, and wet bottom issues because of coco's great water holding capacity and faster draining.. coco breathes far better than peat or soil, another reason to not use larger pot!... look at some other coco growers, and the size of their plants and pots.... you can get monsters out of small pot volumes! Coco is a lot more like hydro that anything else in several ways, and this is one of them,... bigger pots do not = bigger plants, just more potential problems....:smoking:

Have u ever had a problem with mildew or other growths from the always wet state?
nor me not a single problem apart from me forgetting to put cal/mag back in my feed so i had a little calcium defiecency but thats sorted now thanks to @Waira
i use AN sensi ph perfect coco nutes and have never checked my ph either just let my water sit out for 24/48 hours to evaporate the chlorine and get to room temp then in the nutes and additives go and feed.i am doing the same with my black cream in plagron light mix

[QUcarl brutananadilewski, post: 1009175, member: 28848"]Well im thinking i went way to big on pot size. Thats why it takes forever to dry out and some white stuff tried growing. Do the roots run out of room after awhile in s smaller pot?[/QUOTE]
It depends on genetics more. But I would say no in gerneral for autos. but if your still on the fence. Look at some of my other grows. I did a full grow with pak ryder in a solo cup in soil and watered like coco and managed 1/2 oz for Christmas competition. An I got nudged out for the win in the shot glass showdown when I did full grow in a double shot glass.but AFN is a great place to learn tips and tricks to help out aspiring greenthumbs. So stick around brother!

Do u have pics of the shot glass grow?
Well in these coco forums ive been seeing that mentioned alot about growing in nothing bigger than 2gal pots. But in soil five gal is good. Id love to try drip system feeding but i need a res and not enough room in my room for all that ha.

Got a lil more that a gram.

Yeah man it wasnt easy thou. Search the fourm for it. We started with 15 I think and ended with 4 making it to harvest. But seed to chop <6w and had 75% amber. Bare min nutes, wasnt ready for such a fast harvest and only got a handfull of feedings. It was some random herb veg seed starting mix I got from big box for my carrots.

But my personality wont let me back away when I hear "....... competition" :)
