Hey man I'm here! haha. They can surely benefit from extra light, being four more hours at 24. I have seen it. But I too, believe that like all living things, we need rest(darkness).
As far as starting inside and transplanting outside I have read a lot on how you definitely do not want them getting used to 20 and 24 hours of light, then put them outside where they might get 14, see what I mean?
Yes, the sun is more powerful, but they will still be used to having that constant supply of light(be it T5s cfl or whatever). You'll also want to 'harden' them off before going straight outside in full sun. Put them in partial sun for a few hours a day increasing the hours over about a weeks time I'd say, maybe less, then try them in full sun for part of the day for a day or two, then place then full time direct light the rest of the way. This way they will grow strong to handling the suns rays and not wilt and be cooked. I would start with 18/6 if I were planning to go outside. I believe I got that info from cres, too. I could be wrong on where I read that though. Just my
