Hey man I'm here! haha. They can surely benefit from extra light, being four more hours at 24. I have seen it. But I too, believe that like all living things, we need rest(darkness).

As far as starting inside and transplanting outside I have read a lot on how you definitely do not want them getting used to 20 and 24 hours of light, then put them outside where they might get 14, see what I mean?
Yes, the sun is more powerful, but they will still be used to having that constant supply of light(be it T5s cfl or whatever). You'll also want to 'harden' them off before going straight outside in full sun. Put them in partial sun for a few hours a day increasing the hours over about a weeks time I'd say, maybe less, then try them in full sun for part of the day for a day or two, then place then full time direct light the rest of the way. This way they will grow strong to handling the suns rays and not wilt and be cooked. I would start with 18/6 if I were planning to go outside. I believe I got that info from cres, too. I could be wrong on where I read that though. Just my :2cents:

my easy ryders are 39 days old. I put them in the sun all day from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm, then I bring them in the house and put them in my grow box with four 2' t5's, they are budding up real nice. They go blackout at about 2am when i get up to go piss:D then i repeat the process. ive been doing this since day 1 and it seems to be doing fine or maybe beginners luck

Squid whats up bro? Thanks for stopping in! I knew that they need to be hardened before staying outside for the long haul, but i didn't know that running them 24/0 and sticking them outside is a bad idea! I see what you mean about such a drastic change in their light schedules, but i wonder how it affects them? I'm going to try to find some more info as to what it really does to them and if the rewards outweigh the risks.

Thanks everybody for your input. Definitely have some things to rethink :peace:

I have a gut feeling that all plants benefit from at least a few hours of darkness. I remember reading somewhere that all plants (cannabis or not) utilize and store sugars during the day and "use" the stored energy during the dark hours. I don't know how that ties in with autoflowers though. I would personally just go with the 20/4, 24/0 just isn't natural. But yeah, posts those pics Pher. We all want to see!

Thanks for stopping in Alter Ego! Im about to :toke: and do some research on light schedules for outdoor autos! :peace:

thanks for checking this thread out and posting Germin8 and Bgrt!!

You were doing that from the beginning so that should work fine. How many do you lug in and out everyday? That's work.

Cool dude, hey I am no expert I just hold a ton of knowledge and have common sense. This is what I would do, but someone else more knowledgeable may say different. But I wouldn't tell you to do so if I thought it would screw you up.

Hey Squid, not sure who you were replying to here... i always appreciate some advice from the Squid and your humble approach that you deliver it with! i dont think that it would screw me up at all to change the light period from 24/0 to 20/0. its just that my original way of thinking was that i could amp up there veg indoors by running 24, before i put them outside to flower. with yours and others input i am seriously considering giving them some bedtime, but i would like to know if that extra 4 hours of light is worth the risks of placing them outside into the drastically reduced light period. im a "why" kinda guy, so i need to find some info as to what will happen to them if i keep it the way that it is then stick them out, like shock, stress, reduction in yield or whatever else it may do etc. im used to doing this with photos and i have never seen any ill effects but i know that autos are a whole diff ballgame! thanks very much for taking the time to "shed some light" :D on the subject :peace:

No problem man. I was replying to you. haha Hopefully we can get some more input on this.

The summer solstice is 24 hours of light so they can take it but i would not run it
I see no benefit unless trying to keep temps up in winter
Joint doctor has noted running the first few weeks 20/4 then 18/6 may not effect yield either
Bear in mine light cycles reduce in nature late in the season so going from 24/7 to 20/4 is very natural and the fact its related to ditch weed the light cycle starts short and works up to the solstice so really in short I don't think they would give a monkeys either way

Yah I chalk mine up to beginners luck. I got two plants u bring in and out every day. Not much work for me, they sit right outside my room on my balcony. I was just sharing my method so I hope no one takes it to heart as its my first grow in my entire life, but yeah:peace:
