New Grower First Autoflower grow and first time DWC - HELP PLEASE!

I'll start of by letting you all know that i have grew weed once before and its safe to say i made a lot of errors and was quite restricted with what equipment i could buy due to money issues.

However that is no longer the case i have managed to set a bit of money aside to begin my adventure into the world of hydroponics! I have chosen to grow 2 strains at once but in seperate containers. The first strain is the very popular 'Think Different' by Dutch Passion Seeds and the second strain is 'Power Flower' by Royal Queen Seeds.

At the moment i have a grow space of 100cm width, 70cm depth and 170cm height, however this may change as this is the size of my cupboard and i am quite content on buying a tent but can't seem to find one that is close to the size of my cupboard and in my price range (i would like to think i would spend upto £55 on a tent).

My rough plan so far is to have 2 20L containers (one for each plant) both with their own air stones etc but using the same pump. At the moment i have a 125w LED light but i am debating buying a 250w HID and having both lights on the plants at all times (if im correct this allows them to get a wider coverage of the light spectrum?). I will begin of course by germinating the seeds and then placing them in the rockwool and then into a small propagation tank where they will soak in just water with a standard light bulb above them. The nutrients i am going to use are going to be the BioBizz A + B nutes or the Dutch Pro A + B nutes (not sure which ones will give me the best results).

Once sprouted i will transfer my seedlings into their hydro homes and away we grow. I will be keeping the PH of each container between 5.5 and 6 and will adjust my light(s) when appropriate. Also the correct nutrients will be introduced to the plants at the appropriate times e.g. i may start introducing my girls to the flowering nutes about 10 days after they have shown sex.

I have thought about scrogging both plants but im unsure whether to do so as i may have enough on my plate already just trying to get my setup for DWC right.


I have no doubt say some stupid things in the above text so please feel free to correct me. Any advice or citicism is welcome as im a newbie to this way of growing and i would like to get this fairly right first time.

I am no DWC master but I have dabbled, sounds like a good plan to me. I would probably try and keep it as simple as possible first time around. Then start experimenting on the next run. Best of luck on the grow!

ya, simple is good. Good record keeping is good too. That's what I learned the most with my grow. Being a seat of the pants style of life kind of person it was definitely a change of pace! What it did though was help me focus on what I was doing and keep it simple.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, i'll try not to let you down and hopefully produce a good plant.

I should have everything i need in the next couple of days, so i think im going to germinate my seeds tomorrow. Im gunna stick with doing 2 plants as ive read other grows of the think different strain and ive seen some monsters created like Billy Wu's or Seymour - Buds' ladies but i don't think im gunna produce something that great so i shouldnt struggle too much for space.

I've ordered a tent online and its 90cm width, 50cm depth and 160cm height.

Just wondering does anyone have any tips for cutting the holes i the bucket lids? I'm quite limited in terms of tools, i have some screwdrivers and a drill but nothing for cutting circles..

Just use a kitchen knife man the bucket lids aren't thick.

Just a quick update here guys!

I've got my rockwool soaking in plain water (as my nutrients etc haven't arrived yet) and i am going to add the seeds to the rockwool tomorrow and let them start popping out in the prop tank instead of using the paper towel method.

I also purchased a 250w dual spectrum hps for my ladies and decided to go with the canna aqua nutrients and ofc formulex for the start of the grow.

I should be all set up in a couple of days, maybe a bit longer coz im waiting on my tent still too but i have mylar from the previous grow so i can always stick that up until the tent arrives so its all gooooood!

Another quick question here though.. is anybody clued up on handling the reservoir? Like how often do you change the water in your hydro tub and how do you do it? I feel like a pest asking little questions like this but im new to this and everyone starts somewhere init..

Getting a bit worried about my seeds, they haven't sprouted out of the rockwool yet :/ i put them in 4 days a go and i haven't seen anything happen yet.. Can anyone help me out on this or am is it just a matter of being patient?

Ye it's best to soak them in a glass of water for 24-36 hours so they soften up and begin to crack. Then put them in damp paper towel wrapped in clingfilm for another day or two.

Hopefully, if you keep your rockwool moist, they should pop up in next day or so.
