First grow ever need some help.

Like the title says, this is my first ever grow. I'm growing two different autos from MSNL, GDP and Magnum. I put the seeds in water over night and they sank to the bottom of the glass. From what I've read they are still ready to be planted even thought there isn't a tap root showing. I'm plating them in 3gal smart pots with Coco/perlite as my medium. I bought a bag of Mother Earth coco- I don't know how to get the amazon link to work.

With all that said my questions are.. One, are my seeds still ok to plant even though the tap root hasn't broke through on them? Two, do I just put the coco into the smart pot and plant the seed? Does this particular coco need washed? I assume no, because it's a premix and the company would've done so. And lastly, when I plant the seed should the coco already be wet? If so should I add CalMag to the water? Should it be plain water until the seedling comes through and then add CalMag and nutes?

Again, I'm brand new to all of this and any help I can get would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure exactly which Mother Earth coco you bought, but I had a look at their site, and the bagged stuff does not mention it being buffered. If I were you, I would buffer before you put the coco into your pots unless someone on here with specific experience can confirm otherwise. To buffer, soak your mix in a double dose of cal mag, and then rinse with ~ph6 water before putting into your pots. The initial soak in cal mag fills up the binding sites in the coco so that your cal mag you apply with your nutes does not get locked away from your plants by the coco.

As to your seeds, they need to be either transferred into something like a paper towel germ, or planted in smaller transplant pots while you sort out your coco if you need to buffer. Whatever you do, you have to germ the seeds in temps ~80-85F - cold temps seem to me to be the most common problem with germination, especially when seeds are germinated in the final pots.

hmm, sumhow i missed ur other thread las month, so heya @Stilg7 and to afn! i'm a soil grower, and thus, not qualified to answer any coco ques'z, but as far as ur beanz go, yup, it'z ok to g'head & plant without a taproot showin i meself soak mine for 36 hrz, then whether a tap is showin or not, in the dirt they go, lol there'z lotza helpful peepz here tho that will chime in on ur coco ques'z & anything else u need, jus give a holler

Thanks for the warm greetings! Here is what I did, please feel free to critique or give me any pointers. As I said in my original post I'm using
Mother Earth Coco Plus Perlite Mix in 3gal smart pots. I placed the coco straight from the bag into the smart pots, from what I read the Mother Earth mix is pre buffered. So after that, I mixed 1tsp of CaliMagic into 1gal of water. DId a pH test and the color was a yellow green like suggested, maybe a slightly more toward yellow. Unfortuneately I don't have a pH meter yet because I don't want to buy a cheap one with worry that it might not be that accurate or have poor durability. Anyways, each 3gal smart pot got 1gal of water with 1 tsp of calimagic added. After that, I let them sit for 5-10 minutes, poked a hole into the coco up to the end of my fingernail and plopped the seeds in their designated pots. With the seeds now in their holes I gently covered them up and poured a very small amount of water on top of where I planted them. Am I doing ok so far? You seems good to go! Germinating way differs a lot and you have to choose one to start somewhere!Just finished my first ever grow in coco and perlite with same schedule and nutrients and the result is great! You gonna need a ph pen,even the cheap one until you get something else.That's what i'm using with storage solution and still work great so far.
Second grow is already started same way.When i'll be more experience,maybe i'll change to organics in soil or something else but for first grow i think it's a good way to start!

Hey guys everything seems to be going great so far! Tomorrow I plan to post some pictures of my seedlings and my tent setup, with hopes on getting some helpful critique. A couple quick questions though in regards to humidity. I seem to be able to maintain 75-85 degrees without any issues. However, now that I have my lights turned up all the way my humidity is in the low 30s. Does this mean I need to water more? My second question would pertain to light schedule. I started off my grow with the lights always on. So, 24 hours a day for 5 almost 6 days now. I feel my equipment may be getting too hot so would it be ok to change the light schedule now?

no, don't "just add water", lol u could unknowingly open the door for fungus gnatz that way, and well, thoze little bastardz are a whole other story, whew! by all meanz, g'head & change ur lightz to either 20/4 or 18/6, which in turn, will help the rh, at least durin lightz off ppp

I do coco ALOT. I put seed in water. Wait till it sinks. Max 24 hours. Then it goes right into a rapid rooter which in turn goes into a germinating dome on a heat mat. Quite humid and warm. Very good success. Just disinfect properly equipment before use and after. (I need to do mine)

well, u could, but in doin so, ya gotta be careful of the lenzing effect that the water dropletz create under hot lightz one thing a lotta peepz do that have low rh issuez is to hang up a damp towel, with the bottom part of it inside a pail of water, enabling the towel to act as a wick, thereby steadily puttin moisture into the air ppp
