Hello !

So i am about to set up my first grow and i need some help/advice on the lighting.
How much lighting/what kind do i need for 0,33m^2 or 2 plants? Will use mylar in my box for reflexion.

Hello and welcome to AFN!

The general rule of thumb is to have at least 40W of actual output for every square foot. This means you should do great with an LED of about 300W which is a bit more than 140W actual.
Something like this: http://www.mars-hydro.com/led-grow-light-100-3w.html

I hope this answers your question!

Thanks for the reply!
I think i will try and get a lamp like that. I need to find out if the power socket will fit with those we have in the country where i live. Otherwise i guess i could get a socket converter?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the voltage is universal. Mars Hydro should also fit the light with any plug if you ask them.

So after some more research i found this one which is sold in my country: 600W Sunmaster HPS Dual Spectrum. Lumen: 90000.
I know it is not LED, but would this also be good for my box and plants? Just incase the LED's become too exspensive.
Also is there a big difference in the cost of running a HPS lamp like this one and the LED lamp you suggested?

Edit: so far as i have read, this HPS lamp is fine for both veg and flower?

HPS is indeed fine for both veg and flower, but using MH during veg is preferred. Dual Spectrum might eliminate the need, though. HID lights (MH & HPS) tend to draw a bit more than what they're rated, making them pretty much the opposite of LED as far as wattage ratings go.

The most important thing to note, however, is that HID units produce a LOT of heat. You really do have to have good air circulation and preferably some sort of a cooltube system. LED lights only produce a fraction of the heat.

There are also some less obvious differences. Trichome production for one is often debated. I'm one of those people who believe LEDs are superior when it comes to potency of the product. Energy efficiency is also a lot better with LEDs. They are expensive by comparison but they pay you the premium back pretty well.

I would personally go with the Mars Hydro over a HPS any day. Ordering overseas isn't as big of a deal as one might think, but in the unlikely event that there's something wrong with the order it's a pain to return. Compromises have to be made. Just make sure you don't make them when choosing lighting. I have.

Okay, thanks for a good answer!
I will try and get a LED light.
The site you linked with the MARS LED light, is it a proper site? Because they sell much cheaper LED's compared to my country, even with the shipping fee and the taxes paid from the country it is send from

the mars-hydro is a top notch inexpensive light. check out the led section and the AFN marketplace for more info on these fine LED's. lots of happy customer's/grower's using their lights. hope that helps. I've got the 96x3 reflector and couldn't be happier with it.

One last question before i buy the 3x100w LED: Do you need any other lights for the different stages of the plant, or will this light be fine for the entire grow?

Should work fine for the entire grow ... :Sharing One:
