Hi there! I am new to the community here, I'm currently getting my first grow together. Ordered my super box from super closet last night, should arrive in two weeks, but I was looking to get everything planned and setup. Now I get mixed messages from this box from people. My main worry is the 200w feliz bulb and over heating the plants even though I do live in a very cold climate should that be something to worry about or even upgrade to LED? Some have recommended replacing or even adding some small LEDs on the side walls, I see some on ebay very in expensive. Is there any advice on that as well as SOG I've read into this a lot and I believe I should try it to maximize space and yield but is this something used with autos? I've also had difficulty selecting a strain, I am going to order from herbies, any recommendations for a beginner strain with high yeild, ease of grow, and short height? I know I got a lot of questions but I appreciate any response or advice. I will also be doing my log on here as my equipment arrives. Thank you! :Sharing One:

With the right extraction, and being in a cold climate will help. 200w should be fine. I'd run it for a while and see how it goes, make a few tweaks

There's a chap called Lowbudge here who uses tiny leds (30w i think) to do micro grows and they turn out really good! . But supplemental light it just really .... supplemental. I say see how you go with the 200 first and then see where you could improve.

How big is your space?
Scrog is a pain in the arse - LST would be better. Maximizing space is an ongoing journey :)

Pick a good breeder. One you've seen grow well here.

Personally i trust Dutch Passion and Sweet Seeds for good genetics and plants - Dragons are very popular you'll see.

High Yeilds and short plants don't exactly go hand in hand - but i suppose it is all relative to your space and expectations.

I'm currently growing sweet seeds cream mandarin and she's been one of the least fussy plants I've had - taken to nutes well and given me no real problems. About 16 inches high and will kick out about 1.5 ounces when done i imagine.

Hope this helps a little

All the best

Thank you so much for the quick response and welcoming Blue! Your definitely right I'm about a grand in so I'll wait it out for more light. As for LST I just looked into it haven't heard of it yet but how will I achieve it in my hydro box, the example I've seen are for soil. And I'll definitely take your advice on the seeds, there's just so much choice! Haha

One big issue I am worried about is nutrients, I'll be using the technaflora recipe for success and I'm completely lost. I know you have to decreas the amount of nutes utilized due to being autos but idk what other adjustments to make to the recipe. I'm a total noob. But I have decided on Sweet Seeds Dark Devil strain from herbies.

Alrighty just started germing, I've been very worried about the start of these seeds due to being a noob but here was my process. Room temp purified water 5.5ph on a dish, placed three seeds in the water and placed in the dark in the growbox, let them soak for 8 hours till I saw a little white tap root dot peek. Placed then inside of rockwool in the net pots within the resevoir, placed some hydroton on the sides and mixed a half dose of root 66 into the resevoir, filled resevoir to the net pots and turned air pump on for bubbles, mini fan is running across the top and carbon filter is on. Temp is 88 ° Fahrenheit and humidity has been tough to handle staying in low 30's but I have a humidifier going outside at all times. I have the 200 w cfl going 24/7 as well (I know I should get something smaller but I'm on a budget now). As of now the seeds are about 2 and a half days into it with no sprout yet, hopefully I didn't kill my first attempts lol. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated

Day 3, no sprout yet, hope I didn't kill these. Any tips? I think I might give it till 5 or 6 to start over and just do paper towel method?

I just went through the same thing...just do something to keep yourself busy....Noon on day 3, nothing. 6PM on day 3 boom, there she was. If you didn't keep it too wet, it's probably on its way.
Sometimes they get buried a little further than intended and take a little longer to surface. Give it until morning. It can take up to 4 or 5 days. Don't go digging and rooting around, either.

It's tough waiting...

I'm waiting on 2 others as well. All Dark Devils. I soil germed the first one, and while waiting for number one I worried that I had mushed it so I paper toweled 2 more...the first poked it's head hours later and both paper towel seeds showed taproots within 48 hrs. I suspect from what I have seen that Sweet Seeds have a very high germination rate.

Awesome thanks dude, I was just reading one of your journals and yea I just got to stay patient. I just hope that I didn't over feed them and that the small amount of nutes didn't harm them. Fingers crossed
