I'm sure this is a dumb question but I'm still a noob so I'm going to ask. What causes foxtailing? Is it a good thing? How long will it do it for? I looked up pics of foxtailing a while back to see what it was after mention of it on here. Now I have a plant foxtailing like crazy. New buds stacking on top of each other spitting out new fresh white pistols everywhere. Is this good?

In short, genetics. Sativa heavy plants tend to fox tail and from my understanding, high heat environments will make the trait more apparent. I don't see anything wrong with foxtailing, I think it's cute :kitty:

I'm just pulling this from the back of my groggy morning memory, could be wrong.

no question is a dumb question bro!

i had no idea what foxtailing was until i saw hazy first TD grow (buds growing on top of buds)

would love to know what causes this as well -- but i do know that it makes your buds look bigger! lol

Yeah I had a brief read on foxtailing a while back, from what I rememer the three most discussed common causes were heat stress, too much N late in flower or simply genetics, I had a plant foxtail but at the time I never thought anything of it, thought thats just how its growing , love the look of it. I have heat issues so I just assume thats what caused that. If the foxtailing buds dont appear to be ready for harvest, I would just harvest in stages when that glorious day comes.

Thanks you piggy. It is a haze so sativa. It is getting warm 83° to 85°f at the peak. It is "cute" lol. I don't see how it could be anything but good. I looked at the new stuff under a scope and they are covered in really shiny new trics. Along with the cloudy and amber stuff on the rest of the buds it might make for a nice final product.

In my understanding ( and only that) it usually is brought about by heat stresses / lighting changes and it seems like a natural "protective" occurance where the plant reverts ( for lack of a better term) back to a vegetative growth state, then goes back to flowering creating odd calyx formations. It's happened to me in 2 grows last year. As Mr. Piggy said, I think it has to do with genetics and it only happened on my sativa / sative dom. Don't see that it caused me any cultivating issues and didn't diminish the bang of the smoke not one damn bit. Good luck with finding more info. Keep us posted.

Sounds like the right conditions and genetics. I'm sure I only think it's cute because of the name. If they called it troll dick I doubt I'd have the same view

Troll dick buds hide under fan leaves till the fan leaves die then turn into monsters if you wait long enough.
