Fungus gnats in dwc?

Is it possible to get some help on this forum regarding fungus gnats in dwc?
I'm having a few other issues as well. I've tried help several other ways but to no avail yet.
Perhaps im being impatient it's my 1st grow. I'd like to speak with someone today as I'm planning a res change asap.

I've had fungus gnats in my dwc before, it was damn near impossible to rid them entirely but I did a ph'ed res change with some h202 and let that run for like 24hrs, than I used sm-90 (careful can make the rea bubbly) and than I staked yellow sticky paper on little Popsicle stick type things and put those in my net pot and also hung a couple in the net and than busted out a no pest strip, it kept them manageable but in way eradicated them... Be sure to keep your res temps stable; grow area clean of debris.... Good luck

Hi NRK-- sorry bud, I spaced seeing your post at LHT! ..well, I'm guessing they're breeding in the pellets/rockwool, or something like that? I'm not DWC savvy, so I'd ask our good brother DWCocha what he recommends,...I'll ask Grey Bear too,.. but likely, a liquid suspension of the same bacterium that's in mosquito dunks will work, without all the granular bit mucking up things! Yodabuddy mentioned sm-90, which is a wetting agent/water spreader, not a "pesticide" per se, but what it does do is allow the water to easily penetrate their bodies natural repellancy, and drown/smother them on contact.... it's very soap-like, so it will bubble and foam,.... sticky traps will help with adults, but larvae are media bound,..... let's see what the hydro gurus say, meantime, look up that liquid suspension of Bacillus thuringiensis,...

Grey bear talked me of the ledge. I was bugging for sure there! Has no pun intended.
You know, i don't even know what they are, I've just heard fungus gnats batted around so figured it was that.
I've hosed off everyone's roots. They're all bubbling in 6.1 water with calmag only and ice bottles.
Got more water airing out and I'm going to do a res change tomorrow, and follow his instructions about rinsing off roots and such.
Funny you mention Dw he's held my hand this whole time. He's really busy for a few weeks and not online like he usually is. But he did finally get with me this evening. I've said before i can't be left alone with these damn plants. Got seperated when the website was down and i made a disastrous res change in my own.
If i don't kill these weeds, after all I've put them through, I'll feel obligated to write a spectacular review for Nirvana!

I really appreciate you replying! Gotta bunch of help all at once, DWCocha, waira and grey bear! I've hosed them off and cleaned all res, they're just bubbling in plain water over night. Doing res change tomorrow.
I've put out some yellow strips, but that swarm of whatever didn't fly out of any res today. ??? just passing by i guess
I've decided not only am i complete newbie/noob whatever I'm a complete goob/goober. From hence forward i shall be known as The Goobie lol

What did he say about the soil, aka, fungus gnats? I was puzzled they could be established enough to be a bother, without any real medium to feed/breed in,.. as you say-- were they gnats for sure? Easy to ID, just zap it with a light spray of alcohol, or some other gentle catch method, bust out the magnifier, and compare it to a pics of one from a book or online,... --oh, sounds like they're fading away already! ....don't beat yourself up, luv,...DWC is very challenging at first,... a steep learning curve, and an unforgiving method in general,... but when you what beasties you can potentially get when mastered (especially GB's ), it's very enticing,... one needs be quite the micromanager, and well equipped,... no goobage my friend-- you still have living plants! ..keep rollin' with these homies, and you'll get dialed in nicely and soon,... ..and always, feel free to holler at the Live Help!

Stressin there a few days. is all good now it seems. Ppm and ph stable since res change the other day. Eh, i don't know what those flying things were and they seem to be gone. If i had sprayed them there would have been nothing left. Seriously, they were like flying bits of dust! I caught a few but it was like a teeny dark speck of nothing. wtf?! 1st grow and i fly into a panic if something seems off. Learning, learning... I'll get this shit down eventually!
And yes, Ddub is the best ever! I wouldn't have made it this far without him holding my hand. I give him a big ol tickly hug from afar!
And grey bear slapped be back to my senses and talked me of the ledge. I'm spiraling and he's so calm and matter of fact. Just what i needed.
So both feet are on the ground, my hearts not palpitating things are good...... for the moment.

I hate to be one to bump older threads but in the event that someone finds this thread in their 'DWC / fungus gnat' search results I thought that I'd chime in and mention that using Advanced Nutrients' Tarantula with every res change will prevent the onset of fungus gnats because it contains bacillus thuringiensis which actively seeks and destroys fungus gnat larvae. I learned this after not using Tarantula in my last two weekly res changes. Anyway, I hope this helps someone out there.

There are many kinds of gnats, not only fungus gnats. Many breed on pockets of humidity on containers, leaves etc especially the small almost transparent ones. I consider them harmless, but you can never be certain. A good solution is to lower the humidity in your grow space, this is an efficient way to repel them.
