Everytime i germinate seeds they always crack n the taproot always pop outs and the seed always looks like its to big for the shell then all the sudden it seems like it stops growing in all. Every time i investigate the seed 3 quarter of the seed strong like muscle like its def goin to make it but then the 1 quarter of the seed white yellowish mushy and i notice when this happens the taproot is a lilttle yellow. But on every seed i get the taproot to pop out. This how i germinate i useally soak for 12 hours no longer and then put in a dome with a towel over it to black it out and a heat mat underneath the dome i wrap the seed in chesse cloth and put in the dome and every single seed i got to pop and long strong and 3 quarter of the seeds stop growning after taproot came out like 2 cenitmeters what causeing this no matter it i leave it in the dome or take it out and plant it and the 1 quarter of plants that grow bigger then 2 centitmeters they always live in the dome or planted thats what not making sence??? How do i get my seeds taproots to keep on growing and everytime the seeds that do not make it taproot are a little yellowish and part of the body is mushy how do i stop this cause i am getting every seed to get taproot it just the white mushy stuff after wards killing it or something is makeing them stop growing after a certain point what is that?????

sounds like too much water. your process sounds a little more complicated then it should be. All I do is soak my seeds for 12 -24 hours then place in moist paper towl until the shell cracks then straight into soil. If my seeds are good I never have problems.

I used the same method as evol for the grow im doing right now (mind you its my first) and 100% germ and healthy seedlings. Im pretty sure lots of others on here do it that way to from what ive read. Seems like a solid approach.

youre planting the seeds too late and probably too wet. simplify, i get good results from planting straight into soil just covered not deep, never lost a seed just be sure the soil isnt too hot. seeds only have so much energy to work with the taproot tries to find more but if its just in cheesecloth or whatever it has nothing. the longer you keep it out of the soil the bigger chance of damaging/stunting it. roots dont like light either.

I soaked my seeds in a glass of water. When they droped to the bottom i took them out of the glass and planted them straight into the soil. 100% germ rate for me on my first time.

Never soaked a seed in my life - not just referring to MJ here. (But I've always used 'fresh' seed rather than frozen etc)
Hard cased seeds like MJ seeds have 2 parts that split as you are aware, you can aid germination by taking either a file, emry board, razor blade or stanley knife blade etc and scuff or scrape along the join of the 2 halves of the shell. Just a little mind, the shell will wear / scrape away with ease.

This makes it easier for taproot to force the shell halves open.

Pre-soaking has the same effect of course - it softens the shell and allows the taproot to push through the join. However, pre-soaking also allows water to permeate the shell before the taproot has escaped - which can lead to rot, if the taproot is slow to emerge.
Bearing in mind that the shell is permeable, if I scuff/scrape my seeds then place them in a folded paper towel that is fairly well moistened - not so much as it drips. Placed in a sandwich bag at the bottom of the airing cupboard for 24-48 hours has always given me strong, healthy taproots.

Still, if you find a different method that works for you and is easily replicable such as adjusting your pre-soaking method as the above replies mention, then stick with it :)

thanks guys i talked to a pro dude today and i think i known what i have to do know and appericiate all your guys help for real.see i always wraped the whole pot in saran wrap and i got told not to do that no more that is what was killing them so i am tryin that now. without putting the saran wrap around the pot when i put the seed in it. so now i am going to try without it now to see if works better going to try straight to soil method but with that method how often to i wet it???? and how wet do i want the pot to be??????? how long does it take to sprout straight to soil.

although a noob myself, I've had 100% success rate with germination, pop 'em in shot glass with water cover them put 'em somewhere warm for 24 hours then straight to soil, all my seeds have popped 3 days max...maybe I'm just lucky though! Make sure your soil is pre watered you don't want it to wet or claggy and then just mist lightly if you think its too dry

I dont know why any one wants to pre sprout the seed, seems like an extra step for no benefit. Just wet some potting soil(decent brand) pop the seed in about 1/4 " and leave it alone , if is a fresh viable seed you will see it pop up in 2-5 days. Older seed may take longer.

Keep it simple.

If you're germinating in soil, you want the soil good and moist, but not waterlogged. Taproots need a little moisture AND oxygen. Bottom heat may improve germination time and/or success, especially with older seeds, or certain strains.

Scarifying seeds (scuffing/scraping) is not normally necessary, but can help in some situations. If and when I scarify, I like the old method of putting sandpaper inside a matchbox, and then gently shaking the seeds around for a while. Gives a nice, even, gentle scuff.

I germinate like this...I place seeds in a shot glass full of R/O water with one drop of peroxide added. I sit the shotglass in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, they go into small containers of Pro-Mix, usually party cups. I place the containers on top of a seedling heat mat set to 80 degrees F, and put the whole thing under a small T5. I normally get 100% germ rate.
