Ya they are both nitrogen toxic and have been the whole time. The bushy one is just handling it way better. I put a whole #1 pot worth of steer manure in my base soil to see what would happen. I knew the purple one would react bad but I was trying to see what the limits were with the Red dwarf as I had grown it in some pretty hot stuff last grow and was surprised how well it responded and did not want to mix a half batch. When I mixed my soil I was not for sure if I was going to grow the purple one or not. I decided to grow it knowing it would not produce in the mix well but wanted to see if I blast it in to oil if the oil will turn out purple and did not want to wait tell after this grow to find out. I don't smoke so if I mess up a plant I am not too worried about it. I grow for my wife so she is the one that cries when I mess up hahaha. Wish I could smoke but I work for a strict union. I am worried though about the bushy one not filling out as much as I want it to due to the high nitrogen. My next grow will not have this problem as I cut manure in half. I am going to start mixing less and less and see were the lower limit for the plant is over the next couple grows so I can figure out were the sweet spot is.

I like your hands on approach, I'm looking forward to being comfortable doing that. I'm just hoping my first mix gets me somewhere. I'll be growing several strains in the solarium this spring all I think in the same soil, so will be interesting to see how they do.

In a way its like my grows have got boring because I don't mess with them as much now. I am trying to save for a tent so I can grow 4 plants at a time and have side by side grows which will help me fine tune things as well. Soil can be strain specific as you will find out so take notes and save them. As long as you have NPK,micro nutrients and PH is in range you will be fine. PH is the most important. The plants have such a short grow time that if you have a problem that's later in the grow from something running out you might be able to get away with a larger pot to fix the problem next grow. Upping the amount of something might not always be the way to fix the problem because your soil still can only be so hot before it causes problems but at the same time it has to last 2.5 months. I decided I am going to start growing in regular 5 gallon buckets because if I can grow a photo for almost 4 months with 10 gallons of soil with only adding water than I can grow my autos in half that. The plant I just started a few days ago might go in a #7 nursery pot instead of the #15 these are in. I am curious about starting in the finishing pot instead of transplanting too. I never have problems with transplanting and don't think it is an issue but my plant uses a lot if nutrients up in the starting pot and is transplanted and has to grow in to the new soil to find nutrients while the soil it was in just gets more depleted so I end up with a nutrient deprived spot at the top of the pot and nutrient rich at the bottom instead of it all fading at the same time. I am thinking if I just start in the 5 gallon with about 2 gallons of bloom soil in the bottom and 3 gallons veg it will grow roots and pull nutrients from were it needs and be better off. The way I am doing things leaves the top of the soil bare of nutrients and that is were the fine roots are that get the most oxygen. I guess I will try this next time I start an auto. I have started in large pots before with bottled nutrients but not with my organics yet.

To some extent boring is good. For my other main hobby(brewing/distilling) in the early days I had a crazy lot off stuff going on, lots of gear lots of time spent and stuff all over the place.I had to try eveything! After a while things got more streamlined, and a lot less work. For better results. The end results speak for themselves.
I've sure wasted a lot time growing lousy weed over the years, put a lot of effort into doing things wrong . I'm sure, with the help I've gotten from folks here, that I'll have better smoke with less work.

For sure I have grown a lot of bad plants too. When I first started growing I killed about half the plants I grew and started over because I was not happy with how they were going to turn out. My wife would get pissed at me usually saying something along the lines of I #$%&@! KNEW IT.

My wife makes me smoke this shit lol. Last crop I burned with bottled ferts. It's pretty yucky. There's a couple of fine growers locally but I can't afford it. I sort of feel the need to get it right this time.

So around day 56 from sprouting and I think about day 60 from soaking the seed. Plants looks good and smells amazing. Its a shame the cool sweet candy smell it has will evaporate off when I dry it. I think this plant could have used a little extra P starting about 1 or 2 weeks ago but wanted to go whole grow with out feeding. I am pretty happy with my results so far but you never really know tell after you cure it. This plant could be chopped next week and be killer smoke but I am going to let it go 2 more weeks as the trichomes are mostly cloudy but there is still a lot of clear heads and no amber in it yet. I cant find my scope so the phone camera is as good as I can get.

Got my new 4x4 tent put up today. Its a little of a pain. I need some soft 6" flex duct because the aluminum stuff dose not allow me to lower the light so every thing is up on buckets. I measured things out and thought a 4x4 would be good but its physically larger than I pictured and think the 3x3 might have been a better choice but it will work good for me and is awesome. I could easily do 9 plants in 3 gallon pots in this thing if I wanted. I should measure my pots and see but I am thinking I could plant a new plant once a week if I wanted in this thing. I will see how 4 plants do at 3 seeks out from each other and if I feel I have the space I will step up to planting one every 2 before I jump full in on 1 a week. I would have to make sure I planted strains that matured around the same time. That would be crazy to harvest say every Friday. I have weekends off every other week so I will try to make that harvest time eventually. Now that I have the space its time to step up the game. My new red dwarf looks good in the now veg mix but I think 1/2 of a #1 nursery pot is still a little hot so next soil mix will be 1/3 with 3 tablespoons of lime. It likes the 1/2 but its still a little hot for it and it is a nitrogen pig compared to most every thing else I have grown. I started a cheese XXL and dropped it in soil today so will see how another strain reacts to my mix. If I do things right I think each 2 bags of soil mix, 1 for veg and 1 for bloom should be enough for 4 plants so if I get things a little off I am 4 plants in before I make a change to my mix. So far I have 1 in the mix that is sprouted and 1 that's about 2 days out from surfacing. I wont know tell the oldest plant is about at day 30 or so if the nitrogen is too high as this is about the time it really starts to become toxic if it is too much. In about 2 or 3 weeks the next been will drop. When cheese pops I will make a grow for it which should start in 2 days. I will post an update of the old red dwarf tomorrow and an update on the new dwarf on its page. Things are looking good. I think the dry weight will speak for it self. Should be over 2 ounces if I am right. The fade on the leafs is looking amazing too. After I tweak a few batches and grow a few different strains I should have a recipe that is good for some one else to copy. Thinking about 6 more months and I should have my mix down. The real indicator if I have it right is when I can grow the red dwarf good in it and my purple kush turns out awesome with both pulling over 2 ounces. These 2 strains are polar opposites as far as nutrient requirements.
