Got some soil.

You know I know a few people on here are a little intimidated to try mixing there own soil and risk messing up some plants as seeds are super expensive. To those people I recommend getting some regular seeds, crossing and making a bunch of seeds to play with so you can afford to mess up. Don't worry about creating the perfect strain just make some good seeds. Do your normal grow along side your experiment grow so if you do mess up you don't have to start over again to get smoke. My last 2 grows were almost all soil. I did feed a little on the autos and made the mistake of using cal/mag on my photo. before this one were with organic bottled nutrients and that is how I grew for the last 5 years tell I decided to try mixing my own. The bud quality dose not compare. My last 2 grows, one an auto and the other a photo both turned out the be the best smoke I have done of either a photo or an auto even with me making some mistakes. The quality was so good I will never use a bottle again unless it was an emergency fix. Pretty much the only thing I have on hand in a bottle I would use is the Fox farm Big bloom or some Epsom salt.

Ya I know a lot of people mix a good amount of stuff in and I understand why but I want to be able to tell some one new to growing how to get organic buds with out a $200 initial investment to start. I have introduces a lot of people to growing around me and if I give some one a recipe that has 15 amendments in it they are probably not going to follow it due to it being intimidating. Just in the last week I gave 4 people my seeds. 3 of them do not grow yet and 2 of them have never grown before and will be providing seeds probably on a consistent bases to a guy who is in the middles of getting his medical card. When I made super soil for my photo plants I only used 4 bags of soil. 2 bags I made in to super soil and 2 I used for my veg soil. It was about $200 for every thing. Granted the stuff will last me a long time but a lot of the people I know do not have $200 to start up along with all the other things they have to buy like lights and such. Most of the growers I know do soil with bottled nutrients. I am trying to bring people around me to the organic side :)

Got some pictures with the lights off. I am a little worried as a few of the pistils look like they are turning due to pollen instead of age and I have to pull the plant out and check it tomorrow just to me safe.

The smell is amazing on this strain. It has its own unique smell that is sweet and hard to describe. Not too powerful or over powering but still stinks up my house.

Lot's of good info here, Joe. Like you say I'm not much interested in the bottles just want some good soil. It just feels right to me. I'm in for the long haul but also hoping to get off to a good start on my first TLO grow. I've got good beans coming and hope to do them justice. I've received all the ingredients I ordered so coming up on soil mixing day I'm pretty excited about that.
:pass:

Oh yea and I do have some seeds I made last season that i can use for testing that's a good suggestion!

Thanks it will only take you one good organic grow and you will never want to use a bottle again. I need to learn to recycle my soil. Even though I have 2 different mixes in the container I bet I could still recycle my top and bottom mix while keeping them separated enough. I believe in tackling one thing at a time so I want to get my mix were I want it and then I will worry about recycling. I will probably spend the next year or 2 fine tuning every thing. One issue I am having that is just a minor problem is it looks like I am having a slight sulfur deficiency that I believe is from too much nitrogen or phosphorus. I lowered the amount of nitrogen in my next mix as I already know its too high so if I still have the problem I will look else were. Thanks for watching I hope you can learn something from my successes and mistakes. I hope I can get my mix were even some one with limited resources can copy me. Like if I can start using wood ash instead of lime for my PH. Every one can get wood ash. If some one is in the back country its easy and if they are a city dweller in an apartment than they can order it on line. Same with the steer manure. Some one might not have access to steer manure but might be able to find a different source. This will help me when I move to Alaska as I wont have to modify my mix much if I end up living in the back country.

So got some kelp meal. I added 1/4 cup of meal and 1 teaspoon full of humic acid to the mix for the next grow. When my green sand arrives I will add about 1/4 cup of that too. I will also be getting another bag of soil soon to mix and extra batch of bloom soil using the recipe or close to it that I am using now so I can do a side by side comparison. I wanted to try a new strain next grow or actually a strain I grew once out side but I have 3 fem red dwarf seeds left and I can always get more. It would be harder to dial in how I want my mix if I use different strains for different mixes.

Still have about 26-27 days left. At about day 20 I will do a light flush were I let about 1 to 2 gallons of water run off which might be my last water. The trick to growing this way is to have no run off when you water or you flush out some of your easily leached nutrients like your nitrogen.
