Proper way to germ= low lighting, good mood music playing in the background, hold it in your hand softly and stroke it gently, and then you wait for the right moment and boom! Im just playing, you know what to do.

Welcome to the Family, BigBro!

Glad to see you're taking the leap into growing! :tiphat:
I love my T5's!! And X2 what Andy said, keep 'em close!
Happy growing, Brother, I'm looking forward to seeing you crack some beans. :Grow & Show..:

Thanks for all of the support everyone.
So, I guess I'm going to take ya'll up on the offer for advice. I'm getting ready to start and my brother has gone AWOL. I'm trying to remember what he told me about germinating. Does this sound about right??? Seed is soaking in a shot glass of water of pH of 6-6.5, 84℉ in closet. No light. After 24hours, transfer to moist paper towel for 2-3 more days until a tail has formed...

Also, I get the concept of a journal and the reason for it, but how often should I check progress/ write an entry, and what questions or data should I answer each entry?

Hey and Welcome!
When i germ, I soak until the seed cracks and then transfer right into the pot it will live in. Others use the paper towel. It's up to you what you like best. If you use paper towel, just don't let it sit too long, that tap root will sprout little tiny hair like roots that get torn when moved off the paper toweling.
As far as the journal goes, I used mine to track progress. I made notes on everything I did, and the changes I made along with pictures of everything. I did get a little carried away but it was a good exercise for me. It helped me focus and keep track.
Peace and happy growing.
