Hello !

I am getting thick cotton canvas cloth for a cheap rate ... its not waterproof or treated by any chemicals etc ...Its the same material which is used to make those white canvas school shoes if someone knows ...
before I make the purchase, wanted to know if thick canvas is good material to make a few grow bags .. will purchase when someone confirms that its ok ...

Thanks !

I don’t think it’ll be a good choice. I’m sure it’ll last one run but canvas is very susceptible to rot. In regular or constant contact with watercand moist soil, the canvas WILL rot. If you’re looking for a cheap material to DIY grow bags, I’d look at landscape fabric or even Tyvek - a moisture barrier home sheathing that most construction guys will have laying around. I use it for all sorts of stuff including lightweight ground cloths and even for emergency tarps for camping. Drop by a home being built and if they already have the siding on, there will probably be a ton of itblaying around they will otherwise throw away. It’s water proof but breathable. If you double stitch the seams you’d have a very strong grow bag that would work very well. Cotton canvas? Not so much. Sorry.
