Indoor Growing Scrog

I've got a question/need advice. I'm still not great at reading the plant. How can I tell when the stretch is ending and I need to stop tucking? It's only been 8 days since pistils but I want to be a step ahead.

Apologies if this has been talked about already. I still haven't read every page here. I saw someone using clips for the main top bend but they also work pretty well once under the net. I'm not a fan of adding the wire for tucking so I used some clips to keep tips horizontal. Is there negatives to this that I'm not thinking about?

There might be a better way, but the only way I've found to keep the tops down is to use plant ties like you see in the images. The tops want to rise up so much every day, that I have to move the ties every morning. If you crimp them very tightly, which sometimes requires needle-nose pliers, they will 'catch' on the knots in the net strings, to keep them in place for a day. If they are not crimped, the plants just push them aside in a few hours and the tops rise up ...

I just don't like putting the wire in. Seems like I'm roughing up the surrounding plant when twisting and trying to get it in place.

My thought was to use the clips when a tip is just out of reach the next square or when it's just past the square and isn't being held down. I'll still have to adjust clips daily and when the tip has grown enough to tuck I'll remove the clip.

I hear ya'. But as you noted earlier, after HST and a recovery day or three, it's amazing how much loving abuse these plants can take.

Have you thought about using a metal frame, this solves all your growing niggles but creates others on the back end of the grow.

Controlled damage is one thing. Breaking off young branches that would turn into fat colas is different. A combo of net, wire, and clips is working atm. I will have to make custom tie down spots with the wire but the less the better.

Thanks for the compliments @DOA, @Mongoose, @yerunclebudsy, @Antonio_DutchPassion.
Much appreciated everyone! 😊
A run-down on the subject. At your harvest rate, you could start a roadside farm stand 😄 ...

Lol! 🤣 Definitely going to give some a try. Always need more fiber bro!
I’m sure there’s a way to make them yummy. 😛

What a show again bro, stellar job/result!:toke:

Regarding the photo periods, with about 30-35 days VEG you prob end up somewhere between the mark you are saying, both of them have around 10 weeks of flowering on average, but there are faster phenotypes to be found, so depends a bit on what you are actually getting.

If you really want to go all-in with them, I would say extend the VEG a bit, in comparison, when I grow these plants in 1.2 x 1.2m tents with a single plant (a 4x4 in feet) I usually VEG them for about 8 weeks (6 weeks to fill up a 1x1m), grow them in a 50-100L container, full organic soil/coco grow. Ofc your hydro method will probably speed up the growth massively, although I'm probably using stronger lights that will make up for a bit during flowering, how strong at the lights that you are going to use and what size tents are these ladies going to be in?

Maybe the sweet spot will be around 42 days of VEG for you?

I'm really looking forward to this run buddy, very stoked to see how this will play out! :woohoo: And I'm very grateful you are doing this with my genetics! :clapper:Cannot wait to see that 420autoflower field of buds appearing in a few months time, good luck and enjoy the run as always!

Massive!!:growing:
Thanks again brother! :d5:
Let’s say 40 days for now but I’ll play it by ear and decide how long to veg for based on how fast they grow. My goal with these photos is 600-700g (dry weight) each in 100 days or less and figured they need at least 65 days of flower. Haven’t seen anyone out there do it yet with photoperiods in that amount of time and I’d like to be the first one. 😉 All I really need is a 11” tall plant with a good amount of side branching to work with by the time I SCROG. Tent size will also be determined based on how fast they grow but I’m planning on running your 2 ICH’s in a 2x4’ tent with a couple of $49 150watt Maxisuns, and the PMK in a 32x32” tent with a $109 240watt FarmLite or a $79 240 watt Hipar up above. Not sure if under canopy lighting will be needed but I have them if I do.

I'll be watching this one as I fancy giving the photos a go myself. I'll have to wait until late spring though when I can sustain the temps I need with the dark period.
Stayed tuned my friend. 👊Should be a good one!

Looks to me like you have at least another 10 days of stretch to go. The nodes in the middle of your canopy haven’t even started to stack and no cotton balls on the ends of your main branches yet.
Your canopy is filling in well bro. Use whatever it takes to keep those main tops pinned down and watch the middle blow up in the next couple weeks. :eyebrows:

Nice job keeping those tops down Mongoose. 👍

:yeahthat:
Dog fencing works good for canopies up to 30” and less than $5 per plant. Plenty of places to tuck and holds wire well.

Ive been as you say sculpting her to fill the middle. Should I just leave her alone to do it herself?

Thank you for this! I hadnt looked into potential materials. Thats not a bad price.

Allright! The plan is laid out, nice! :clapper: I think its indeed best to see how they do in your setup and base your decision upon that, I'm clueless when it comes to growing in your hydro setup and you're the master so, we just watch your moves hehe!

Hope you have an amazing X-mas time with your fam & friends mate, enjoy it! And if I don't speak to you anymore this year, Happy New Year and all the best wishes for 2026!! :bighug:

Also to all the other growers/followers on here, happy holidays from the Dutch Passion team!!
