Hey all :)

I'm growing some vegetables under LED to see what kind of size, yield, taste etc you can get from a low-powered LED.

It's a Prakasa 120W light.

I'm using Plagron light mix plus Plant Magic Old Timer organic nutes and some biosilicon.

Day 1 happened while i was away for a few days, i'm assuming it was half way through my time away and that was the 9th of April, which makes today day 8.

I'm growing from a Maris Piper, organic, non-GMO seed-potato, and also four onions, Ailsa Craig, organic, non-GMO seeds.

Both vegetables will take 120 days.

I will also grow some carrots and tomatoes when the potatoes and onions are 50 days old, as the carrots and toms take 70 days.

Here's the potato plant at day 8, very vigorous growth, started off at 2ml/L in this soil :

Day 8 for the onions :

It wo't be much of a harvest numbers-wise, maybe ten potatoes, four onions, maybe eight carrots and a single tomato plant, but i'm doing it to find out how tasty they are or aren't under a weak LED.

They are in my homemade cab which has a bracketed shelf system for easy height adjustment.

The potato really closes up when lights are off, this was at lunchtime today :

and this was about ten hours later, just now :

she really opens up for the light, lots of movement.

Not surprising it's so vigorous, what with starting off with a small potato rather than a tiny seed, i'm assuming it uses it as nutrients but i'm clueless, must read up on it!

Heya Steely! Potatoes need NPK just like any other plant. Also, potatoes, need to be planted at the bottom of the pot with 3-4 inches of soil on top, tiered method with the soil. Once the leaves come up to the top of the soil, add another layer of 3-4 inches of soil. onions need just veg nutes, nothing to flower on those. Light doses on the potatoes, something close to organic if ya can, especially if you are going to eat them. If you were to start them in a 5 gallon bucket outside even, in the fall, you can get 12-15 lbs. of potaoes in 1-5gallon bucket! Here is a great link for ya...

Your veggies should do just fine. Most veggies produced here in Holland, and that is ALOT, is grown In greenhouses under artificial light, a lot of it coming from LED these days.
Please keep the updates ticking in until post dinner table........ Subbed!

Thanks for comments and link :)
