Love my hennessy hammock. No Footprint. Beats the hell out of the ground. Hiked the Appalachian Trail 2005. Traded my tent in for the hennessy in 200 miles
Oh, not the whiskey, hum. Yeah the hammock thingy. I ran my tarp accross a seasonal drainage creek and had a bivuac underneath, back in humboldt in the 80's. But I was there for the summer. I had a shower (cold of course), Had the ice chests dug into the ground, and used the dry creek bed as my fire pit, and only used the fire at duck and dawn, so no smoke could be seen. A little more on overcast days. A trip into Garberville on foot, for supplies once every two weeks. I would treat myself to a bag of hostess donuts that day. The rest of the stuff was like bulk foods and such, to save space in the knapsack.
I used to just have a bivy sack. But the hammock is even easier. Got a bunch of piks of the back country I'll try to post..sorry about the quality though I got a broken lense.
Got a few camps but they one is one of my favorites. Right next to a forest spring and right deep I'm the ol growth. Had a bear come sniffing there one night last year. ..gave him a firecracker for his trouble.
Built a stone jet stove this time, an goin to build a super shelter at the next camp..it's higher up the mountains an still gits chilly at night in Aug.
