Unfortunately, I can't grow around the homestead so I'm forced to grow elsewhere on private land which should be pretty secure and stealthy. I have decided to plant within a few meters of a water source for easy access.
I'm going with Think Different (beans arrived today!
) and a few freebies thrown in by Herbie. Here are my thoughts....
Considering putting two of the tree TD beans in smart type pots(three gallon) and the third in amended soil nearby. The freebies will go in the ground as well. All will be germinated and then put in small starter containers for a couple of weeks. My planned medium will be Just Right Xtra.
My potential issues and concerns: I will only be able to check on things about every couple of weeks. Between this, I'm concerned about watering or the lack thereof. I'm considering putting some water retaining crystals in the bottom of the pots and the soil to help with retention. I've also got some water nannies that will hold two litre bottles that I can put in the grow pots.
Sun exposure where I'm considering should provide six to seven hours of morning light with the remainder filtered/dappled sun to shade in the afternoon.
Should I be ok with this watering schedule during the late spring/summer/fall grow? The past few years, our dog-days of heat don't usually kick in until late July. Given my two week schedule, would I be better off to forego container grows? The Just Right medium is supposed to help with moisture retention and with the crystals and nannies I'm hopeful I can make this work.
Any thoughts/tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.
