Hecno's soil

Microbe and Fungi tea , this is what I made to add to the soil ,I thought I would use different soils to get a mix of microbes and fungi @Waira The IB is coming along fine , I harvested I and have 2 to go . which will be in 3 or 4 days . @Teetee all good up here mate , fair way south of us , we got lovely calm fine weather , but bloody hot and humid , Been good for microbe farming . :biggrin: I also have a Lactobacillus serum on the go to , by time it is done and added to the soil that will be about it , So I am hoping I will be seeding in 3 weeks , just waiting on seeds now . :thumbsup:

Now we come to my worm farm , I have done things a bit different here , There is no house hold waste in it , The food is coming from my yard which I have noticed them eating , things like the old banana pile - under and in very old rotten logs , they must like it as there are little ones in there now . If my where already in the soil as eggs I don't know .

This next photo is left over rice from a rice wash , I put it in a small tub , covered it and stuck under a old tree , then forgot it was there till yesterday , but it shows how well the microbes grow in a warm climate .

Las but not least My first IB -- Lot of learning with this grow, mostly what not to do :rofl: But as I only grow for myself , I can afford to muck around . :thumbsup:

It worked [ so far ] making my own seedling mix , Now what we have here is all local stuff , all I did was gather up some soil from under the old banana pile, shift it to get the larger chunks out and add a bit of sand and as there where worm and curly grub casting already in it that is all , it drains well , the seedling is a tomato looks happy so far . :thumbsup:

Worms are great I love my worms :biggrin: Man are these guys doing there job , remember these are native worms from around my yard , cost to make this lovely stuff
-- Nothing -- This is for making my worm tea . as before I feed them fine chopped banana stem and damp leaf liter from under old trees . :thumbsup:

There are a lot more in here , I notice they hang out on the very bottom during the day .

Now what can I do here . Tea , organic fertilizer , Hmm , Yerr I hear ya . [ what the hell ya got there ] Ok sit back pack the bong and grab a beer ,
Lets start with curly grubs , again a while back I found there [ castings for want of a better word ] For a while I have been watching and studying them , I now know there breeding time frame and they can't be farmed like worms as they eat roots , Which brings me to Eyes on Fires post about tea's . The main thing with that post that I was interested in is the bit about Microbes and Fungi -- Where I get this stuff from is under a old pile of Banana plants that I placed under a canopy of trees , Now with the curly grubs , being root eaters I am thinking more [ fungi ] oriented , So what is in there casting , Has to be different goodies to worm castings :biggrin: Ok so what is next -- Worms -- There is shit load of worms too [ microbes ] which gives me heaps of castings . -- [ I keep the worms and put them in my native worm bin ] -- So what else is in this mix -- soil -- I would say about 20 % and around 30 % Curly Grub casting , which leaves 50 % worm castings . Or there a bouts . I find most if it on top of the first 2 inch of soil . Also I find it stores well . I keep it damp with a fine mist and cover it with plastic , sort of a humidity dome . So how to use it -- I am thinking first up -- Tea -- Then a layer in the soil , not too much 1/2 way down the pot so as the plant gets older it will tape into it .
@Eye on Fire -- @POP22 -- any input here . :thumbsup:

@Waira

Good stuff man :greenthumb:

I have been trying to find different avenues to acquire different goodies for teas and compost. A fairly well known guy here in my town, Ken the Bug Guy, breeds insects for pets and also feeder bugs, including large quantities of different cockroaches. He has to be sitting on a gold mine of different insect frass! Going to have to stop by his shop and work out a trade
