Live Stoner Chat Hello AFN!

Yeah, at the end of the day that's what it boils down to. I think if I go with a cheaper unit that uses *more* diodes and draws a similar amount of watts when compared to the more expensive brands, it'd be reasonable to expect similar results. That's of course assuming they have a similar spectrum and lensing situation.

I mean, I've seen people using these Mars II units, and the results have been positive. So as far as price and results go, I'm optimistic.

I'm aiming towards a single plant grow, for personal use. I was inspired by Billy Wu's 2x2' grow of a single Think Different in soil with a 250 watt hps.

If I grew in similar conditions with about 300 - 380 actual watts of LED lighting, I think I'd have more than enough light. ^_^

I guess I'm just still curious as to why companies insist on driving their LEDs at higher wattages. There may actually be an advantage to this approach that I just don't understand yet.

Welcome to AFN! Wealth of knowledge here for just about anything you could want to know! As for you post about LED,s......If you drive an LED at 100% all the time the lifespan of the diodes decline much faster. If a unit has 100 LED's and is driven at 100% wattage capacity all the time, the hour life of the individual diodes decreases from say (50,000 hours......im just guestimating dont hate me) down to much less. Also, if you have more LED diodes in a light unit, you can hit more individual light spectrums: IE: different reds, different blues. This is all just what i have read and researched which could be wrong. But, i can see some truth to that. Fewer LED's in my mind would hit fewer light spectrums. You may have brighter lights with less spectrums, but will it produce less or more with a light with less brightness but more (possibly more productive) light spectrums? This is just my thoughts on it. I also do the science approach. Seems i always overdo the thinking part with individual plant needs while friends of mine dump tons of miracle grow on it and get good results.

Morning Dr Frog, Welcome mate! :tiphat: :peace:
