Hi.

I'm doing my first grow which, after a few hiccups, seems to be going along nicely.

Just wanted to say hello and also thanks to all the AFN members for the wealth of information.

Currently growing three Expert Seeds Caramella Autos.

I'm growing in 16L smartpots with RO water in Coco Coir. 1.2m X 1.2m X 2m tent with a 600 watt HPS with a 6" extractor fan. Canna Coco A+B, Rhizotonic, Cannazym, Calmag, PK 13/14 and Boost.

Started out with four strains germinating in Jiffy Coco pellets. Two Blim Burn strains, a Dutch Passion Critical Xtreme (I think) and one Caramella.

The Blim Burns never popped and the Dutch Passion popped but the stem on the seedling kind of fell over and it didn't make it.

The Caramella, on the other hand, just kept on going.

I then popped two more Caramellas a week later and they're all doing fine.

I made some eye watering mistakes at the beginning. Pots that were too small when transferring, under watering, over watering, too many nutes, too little nutes, crumbling jiffy pots etc.

Once I transferred all the plants into the smartpots everything settled down. I'm on Day 35 (counting from the first seed). They all started flowering a few days ago, despite the week difference. Two of the plants are smaller/less bushy than the first one but they're not exactly shrinking violets either.

I'm struck by how rewarding/engaging the whole process is. And that's without experiencing the end benefits!!

Here's my pride and joy from about a week ago (apologies for the crappy quality)...

hey buddy welcome to afn. im only on my third grow but my first was in coco, about 5 years ago and pretty similar to yours. exactly same nutes, same light etc it done me pretty well. i keep meaning to find out, are they ph perfect nutes? i didnt know what ph was at the time or have internet so i just gave them tap water. i dont see many people using them but they worked miracles for me. hope it all goes well for you aswell mate. theres a coco growers section thatd be good for you to have a look around aswell. happy growing amigo : )

Thanks, EvilScotsman.

Whatever combinations and quantities I've been using seem to have little or no effect on the PH of the water. It seems to stay around 6 before and after nutes. Which is pretty much the sweet spot for Coco.

well thats a definate bonus. i see loads of people asking for ph balanced coco nutes but i never recommend them as i wasnt sure. i just planted, done what the bottles said and left them to it really. you ran into many problems along the way?

The beginning was messy. Didn't know what I was doing or what to expect. The seedlings were super stretchy and on the verge of keeling over. (Not enough light so they were stretching.)

I also bought one of those Ebay kits but ended up replacing the fan and a bunch of other stuff. (Moved from a 4" to a 6") I also bought a Mars Hydro 300w led light for some unknown reason!!

I might get another smaller tent for single plant grows since I have all the required bits left over from bad purchasing decisions.

With this grow when I transferred the first jiffy pellet to a smaller pot it was too early and the whole jiffy pellet exploded in my hand. I was holding onto the skinny stalk with exposed roots.

Very messy. My heart sank.

I was sure that the plant was done for but I transferred it to it's new home and it didn't break its stride.

I also transferred from the pots to pots that were far too small. Roots were sticking out the bottom of the pot within a few days. So I had to transfer again. Luckily the roots had developed and the whole thing held together and transferring was a breeze. Next time I won't make the same mistake.

The biggest plant has some yellowing at the very tips of the leaves but it hasn't spread. Every new leaf has the same yellowing but it hasn't seemed to affect the growth. I freaked out at first but then since it wasn't really having any adverse effect on the plants I stopped worrying.

I think the best advice I've read is not to fuss over the plants. They're pretty rugged and the Rudalis genes that most Autoflowers have make them doubly so.

It seems the less fussy I get the more the plants thrive. I do like Coco since it's very much a fire and forget thing once you have the nutes dialed in. I'm using the Canna grow guide as a starting point but maybe dialing it back a slight bit from their recommendations.

Here's the most recent pic of three girls:
