FolksI

I have most unfortunate news. As I came back to my house and took a look at my garden, I noticed that my HS1 (first version) had died. It was connected with the extension cord from my newer HS1 (v1.1) that seemed to work just fine.

In the broken HS1 I could see only two blue LED's lighting up the corners and some reflection from the other led diodes. I did remove the holographic diffusor to take a closer look at the diodes and they all seemed fine and I didn't smell anything out of the ordinary. My never HS1 worked just fine and while I was pluggin in the older, broken HS1 I could hear that there was a little hum indicating that the cooling system was working.

I have never dropped the unit nor have I abused it in any manner. Most relative humidity it has been exposed to has been at maximum of 70 and the ambient temperatures have always stayed below 30.

Might you have any idea where the problem orginates from and/or how to fix this? I would really need to have this damn light to work in order to finish my CBD Kush -grow properly.

Yeah bro I sent out an email to Crazy LEDs from where I ordered these from. I am not sure if I should take contact directly to GN about this since I didn't buy directly from them either. Bah. I am sorry I am so upset about this. I think it might be the philips xitanium driver that has failed. That's just my thought but I am not going to open it up and taking it apart if it voids the warranty.

Hay bro I had a similar thing happen to one of the first HS1s I got, think it took like 2 days to get sorted after telling GN so a quick turn around.....give the an email bro and they will get it sorted quick as a flash. There warranty email is warranty@grownorthern.co.uk or go on there live chat.

Ok. So if this happened to you too @TaNg then it should be a known issue with a known method to fix it. I am sorry that happened to you but same time I am relieved to hear that I am not the only one. Man... this has got to be really bad luck. I had my old MS0006 serviced for a faulty driver too back some one and half years ago and now this....

I am seriously thinking of ditching these LED's all together as they break down and continue with something that I can rely on. I thought that 500e would be justified price for a unit that I would know would last and I could count on that. I am sad to say I cannot trust that anymore.

Only one of my 5 lights had an issue bro and only one module out of my MS lights ever went out and both were sorted in a no time......GNs customer service is second to non and all part of the cost of the light if you need it bro so give them a shout and they will do everything they can to sort it.

It's always a pain when something you like or rely on breaks, my enail has broken and I feel like I've lost an arm....not having much luck with them though been waiting three days with no response to my Warranty claim. When you get good customer service faults aren't as much as of a drama.

That's right. I am actually amazed Daniel from GN got back to me already even though it's weekend. This issue according to him seems to be that the dielectric layer of the MCPCB has cracked and its creating a sneak path through the module, therefore bypassing most of the LEDs. He also told that this issue has been addressed in HS1 version 1.1. by changing the material used in the dielectric layer and the insulation. I agreed that rather than sending my unit back I am going to swap that MCPCB with the old one and replace it myself. Gee, I might even do some photos of the process.

Thanks for your kind words and advice, TaNg. I think with all of this, my mind can rest better. I am just so upset my CBD Kush operation received a setback. It is at least a week of 1/2 light capacity in peak production. Oh well... Life happens, eh?

Good news bro and I'm sure your plants won't mind to much.
