Live Stoner Chat Hi AFN! Bout time I said hello.

大麻 Da Ma, or Cannabis, is indeed one of the essential herbs in traditional Chinese medicine. It's had many uses and is pretty popular in true Chinese culture. It is kinda funny that there is a backlash against "Marijuana" in modern tourist China, but the traditional Da Ma is totally acceptable for medicinal purposes, and it appears common that most don't know it's the same plant lol.

Sounds familiar? It should. In the late 1800's and early 1900's America, lawmakers and politicians began to be concerned with "Marijuana" and the potential social effects. Many of these same guys (it was all men then) owned and grew industrial hemp for fiber and medicine, not realizing it was the same plant! Eventually these same guys were pressured to start outlawing Marijuana... Unfortunately for their own businesses, they outlawed hemp too. Many would go on to report and write that they had no idea it was the same plant, and would not have outlawed it had they known the industrial and business impact it would have had.

Yeah, I was always tempted to go into a herbal medicine shop and ask for Da Ma but never quite build up the courage. Im pretty sure they probably had some. lol

Great story bro, really engaging.
I only spent two weeks in NE China visiting a mate, in his second year teaching English.
No green for us but an endless supply of free hash :-)
It wasn't the strongest but was clean and blondish, more maroc/leb than afghan/paki and had a real nice floral smell/taste.
Your story took me straight back there. Happy days, thanks for sharing.
Good growing karma coming your way. :karma Cloud:

Sounds similar to the hash I was smoking out there. Where did you go? Harbin?

Its ChangChun. Been there a couple of times. I was further up north. About 2 hours from Harbin on the train. I have a few friends who live in that province. Changchun is a pretty big city so the green is harder to come by as you would need to go pretty far to get out into the countryside to find it. I used to love riding on the trains spotting weed as I went lol

Welcome to AFN PC, great story and good luck with your grow. I will check out your journal

Hi all,
I have already started my journal but neglected to say hello, so I thought it was about time I did. This might get a little bit long winded but Im sitting at worked bored out of my mind so I thought as well as saying hello I would tell you all a little about myself and my love affair with weed.

Before I get started I would like to thank each and every member of AFN for their kind words and help with my grow. This forum is awesome and deserves to be thanked.

So here we go. I am originally from England and first fell in love with weed when I was 18. Someone passed me a hash joint at a party and I have never stopped smokin lol. By the time I graduated university I was smokin about an 8th a day which in the UK can be an expensive habit, but I was loving it and didnt give a f**k. Anyway after uni I worked a dead end job in a call center for a year and felt I was going no where. So I decided to make a drastic change in my life (no i didnt decide to quit smoking weed haha). I decided to move to somewhere I completely new and different. There arent many places as different to England as China so I packed up my bags and left with 300 quid in my pocket.

I was originally thinking that I would only spend a year in China as I thought I was gonna have to go without weed for my whole time there. Boy was I wrong. I ended up in north eastern China (essentially Siberia) just south of Russia and north of North Korea, in a province called Heilongjiang. On the first night I arrived in the city I was going to work in ( I wont say which as I would like to protect the anonymity of my fellow expats), I was taken to the local foreigner bar by a colleague. Oh I forgot to mention I was working as an English teacher if you hadnt guessed. Anyway at this bar which was to soon become my home I was introduced to life in China with a fresh cold beer and a joint. This blew my mind at the time as I was under the impression that the government execute people for drug offences (which the do).

I quickly came to realize that in Northern China and this may be true for other parts of China as well, that wild cannabis grow almost everywhere outside the cities. As I arrived in China just after the winter you would think that weed would be in very limited supply. This was not the case. I was invited over to a friends apartment for a blaze and he gave me approximately 10oz of weed for free. Yes this wasnt top quality herb but rather outdoor grown shwag with loads of seeds but who cares when you have so much of it that you can chain smoke blunts all day without ever having to pay for it. Come late September early October of my first year there my friend instructed me it was time to buy a bike because it was picking season. We rode out of the city maybe 30 minutes on our bikes, so not that far. And damn! I have never seen such a see of green. Plants growing up to 8 or 9 feet in height. I later found out that one of the reasons there is so much weed out there is because the farmers spread the seeds around the perimeters of their crops as the insects prefer to munch on the weed rather than corn. After a whole day chopping we came away with 3 full black bin bags of weed each. Many people might think this is highly risking riding through a busy Chinese city carrying huge sacks of weed but it really didnt feel risky at all. Mainly because the average Chinese person has no idea what weed looks or smells like (even the local police didnt). The friend who gave me my weed when I first arrived told me where he got his from once. He is married to a Chinese woman whose parents are rural farmers. His wife's father set aside one of his fields for weed, not only this but when he harvested this he put it in burlap sacks and took it on the train for 6 hours to bring it for my friend. That means he went through all the security in the train stations which includes x-ray machines and not one person even questioned it lol.

Every year we would aim to harvest enough to last for a whole year until the next years harvest. We nearly always achieved this haha. It is somewhat strange that not only was it us foreigners smoking weed but also elderly Chinese people. The cleaner at my school nearly always walked around with a joint hanging out of her mouth. At the local convenience store I was trying to find papers which is not easy in China when I noticed the elderly father of the owner was smokin joints in the corner. I went over and in my limited Chinese tried to explain I wanted some papers like he had. However this got lost in translation and instead he produced a box filled with herb lol. The majority of Chinese people I have asked about this dont realize what it is they are smoking but instead think it is some sort of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, which I suppose it is lol.

Having originally planned to only spend a year in China I finally left the country after nearly 5 years lol and it will always have a place in my heart for the great times and great people I met there.

Now I am living in Ireland and was shocked at how expensive good weed is here. The cheapest weed I can find in my area is 30 euros a gram. F**k that. So here I am growing my own and loving it.

Hope you enjoyed my story, Sorry I rambled its kind of hard to maintain my train of thought when blazed.

Peace out.:Sharing One:
