Great forum and so glad I found it.

New grower here and very much a part timer just looking to small scale grow my own stash. Not wanting anything complicated, just a couple of small grows a year to stay self sufficient. Autos seemed to be the way forwards and so I jumped on board earlier this year with a small grow tent, lights etc and stuck a couple of Vision Northern Lights in there. We are a couple of weeks from harvest and having made a couple of mistakes early on the plants are quite small and so I don't have high yield expectations.

Second grow will start in August and I will be a bit more prepared this time with a two pot AutoPot system to grow in a 50/50 topsoil/perlite mix and I might possibly buy the air dome and air pump as well.

I have a question about nutrients.... Are they really necessary if you are growing in soil? If so, what is the bare minimum needed without over complicating things? There seems to be a completely bewildering choice.

Welcome and yes nutes are necessary unless your using a super soil.. With a super soil you can get away with feeding just good quality water .. I use a super soil check out the grows in my signature and let me know if you have any questions.

ay up zanzi - fellow north westener here - though been living in london for a good while now. mate, if you haven't already, have a look at Tang's grows. He grows the most incredible autos very simply and has been kind enough to share a lot of his process on these forums. - what might interest you is his simple feeding schedule that he posted up - he uses small selection of nutes and has established a feeding schedule that really delivers great looking plants for him. I'd say looking at what he does is the best recommendation for incorporating nutes into your growing game!

good luck bro and welcome!

Hello Zans,

welcome to AFN, yes nutes are a must. Start a journal for your next grow and we can learn as we grow together.....eP.
