Would like to try HP Pro-Mix, but can not get it locally. Does anyone have tips or tricks, to make your own?? Found a general tek, just mixing peat moss, with perlite. Have the stuff to make a myc tea.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Pro Mix is basically Sphagnum peat moss, perlite, myco, lime, starter nutes and a wetting agent. The wetting agent is nice, but not really needed. Everything else, except the myco can be purchased at a big box store or a good garden center. 80 - 85% peat, 15 - 20% perlite, depending on what kind of lights you're using. More perlite lets them dry out a bit quicker, so best for CFL, LED, T5s with their lower heat. Pre water with 1/8 strength nutrients before planting your seeds to provide some mild nutes to get them started.

Thanks for the info!!!

Planning on outdoor and/or 400 watt halide. Should I go less/no perlite?

How much lime? Are you just trying to adjust PH?

Also doing hydro. I change the hydro solution about once a week. Could that be used for soilless?

Thanks!!!!!!

You'll still need the perlite. It holds water/nutrients, keeps the mix loose to promote good drainage and helps bring oxygen to the roots. Yes, the lime is needed to buffer the pH. One tablespoon of dolomite per gallon of mix should be good. I wouldn't use the hydro water, I'd mix fresh nutrients. I'm sure after a week it's depleted.

"Premier" is a brand of peat moss sold at most hardware stores, the DIY place by me has it, as does home depot. It's basically the same maker of promix, only it's pure peat.
