True,make sure you set it to 100 x mag with the one focus wheel and then set the scope directly over the sample.Make sure the light is on and then use the top wheel to focus.Once it is in focus than you can move it around slightly to scan the leaf.If you ware glasses I would remove them and just use your eye.
