Hi!
So, first things first..
My settings :

Tent 4x2x5
5 x 3 gallon air pots with soil
My current lights: 1 x 250w hps and 1 Mars hydro reflector 48

I'm in the process of ordering auto cobs, but I'm not sure how many I need.
As it's getting hotter outside I need to replace the hps. I'm planning on keeping the mars until it breaks down on me.

How many cobs do I need?
My first plan was to put the Mars in the middle and one cob each on the sides.
But is that to much light maybe?
Will one cob plus the Mars be enough?

I was told one cob per plant

The chances of me ever growing in a tent is minimal to say the least but as long as im breathing...you just never know lol

Also due to being new/ inexperienced, my post would bear zero weightage. But when im bored, I'll chime into any discussion. Best part is, people just seem to ignore me when I get annoying lol. Instead of trying to rip my head off like what i see online.

Here's what my fantasy would look like with your setup. The general consensus seems to be 1 autocob per plant so would probably get 5. The Mars light will be hanged on a 45 degree like angle and will be rotated to each 4 corners probably daily to keep my hand busy (so that i wont mess with the plants too much). The Mars will be like a sun orbiting the plants, giving them some added spectrum but not so much they become blurples. Would also function as side lighting. If anything, it would make 3500k look closer to the sun's color. Most likely start the Mars at first sight of flowers?

Id go with 3 maybe 4, since you dont have too much head room.

Have you grown 5 girls in that space before? Thinking about going to a 4x2(currently running 3x3) myself, but was only gonna do 2-3 at a time. Seabass kills that space with 2 plants at a time.

I too would not grow 5 ladies in that space. I have 9 square feet and will do 4 small or 2 large ladies. I use 2.2 or 3.9 gallon pots depending on the size of the plant I want. Even with training my tent gets busy. You have 8 square feet of floor space and I would leave it at two big ones or 3-4 smaller ones.

So in your tent I would not need more than 4. In addition, I would seriously consider converting that Mars to COBs. I’m getting ready to convert one of my older blurples and don’t know crap about electronics. For less than $60 I'm converting mine to have 100watts of cob power with three 1812s. That’s like two AutoCOBs in one panel. I hear the hardest part is scraping all the old LEDs off the heatsink of the panel. Then you could easily save yourself another $140 and only purchase 3 AutoCOBs. @BigSm0 is good selling parts as well as the completed units. Plus he is more than will to pretty much walk you thru the conversion. He has been a tremendous resource to me and I truly believe that he just wants everyone to have the best lights.

Well...
I'm not that experienced grower. My last grow (and first indoor) I only got 14 grams out of 2 royal queen amnesia haze. Although I did have a lot of issues with almost everything.
I'm hoping for more this time of course but really not expecting these big yields people get.
I'm seriously impressed!

I am lsting so I'm hoping I'll manage to grow 5 (different strains, all Dutch passion).

So I'll basically need 5 cobs if I skip the Mars.
Damn, that's to much cash at the moment. I'll need to pay shipping also to my country and that ain't cheap.

How about Mars in the middle and one cob each on the sides?
Is that such a bad idea?
Of course the yield will pro be less.

Saw your thread, good questions but quite off on your calc's @Equatorial @HemiSync @Autoqueen25 . Im no pro but I am Chongs Cousin and the PAR is 1 autocob for a 2x2 or 2 autocobs for a 2x4,etc. Hope this helps. Im currently growing 4 plants, 3/4 beasts in 5 gal One of the seeds was a dud so it stunted but would have been a beast also. Under two 3500k cobs in a 2x4,and I could have done five (5) gal and possibly six had I gone that route, wouldn't have it any other way. @BigSm0 can help you with questions you may have about his lights-cheers and happy growing @Cookieman

Yes one cob and the mars will do the trick, two cobs and no mars even better imo. 2 cobs now Thats a great start, looking forward to your grow!!

Sorry for the delay Cookieman. To start I would use 2 cobs total. Do a grow or two and add a third if you need it. One cob per plant works well but it’s a waste of money and energy if there are other important things that aren’t dialed in yet. Talk about the worst salesman ever award. Lol. That’s what I’d do. But you do have the info and can do with it as you like. 2 cobs gives off a lot of light and I’d also bet you wouldn’t be disappointed. As far as temps go and the whole upgrade the mars isn’t much better if at all better than the hps. I would run 2 cobs alone before I added the mars. Efficiency wise 2 cobs give more than 2.5x the light than the mars and draw the same amount of energy. With every watt equaling the same amount of heat wattage that’s wasted is basically the same as an electric heater. Hope this helps, again sorry for the delay.
