Indoor how many plants under 400w hps?

My last grow i started four autos under my 400w hps, then i removed one, leaving three autos to be grown under my 400w hps cool tube.

my harvest consisted of a lot of popcorn buds and some airy buds.

dont get me wrong theyre were some nice buds and some nice colas.

if i wanna get more dense buds and less smaller airy buds should i just grow less plants under it or try a SCrOG of some sort?

You can get fair density from a 400 watter... I put 4 plants under mine in 3 gallon pots as it can only really cover a 3x3 area, smaller pots more plants. How high was your light over the plants? How tall were your plants? Did you use as bloom stimulator or flower enhancer? What type of nutes were you using? What temperatures were you growing in?

Keep your light as close as possible, with a cool tube you can easily get 6 inches away from the tops. Try to keep your plants under 3 foot tall (2 foots better) as the 400 watt doesn't have great penetration for tall plants. Although it is possible to get dense nugs with out a high PK flower stimulator, it is much easier with one like Mother of all Blooms or Shooting powder as those will fatten and improve density.

How big pots are you looking at using? I say you can have 4 to 16 depending on pot size and which strain you choose. If you take a dwarf you can get up to 16, if you take a 3 footer you should probably go for 4 pots.

What kind of yield are you getting? what size pots are you running? how many days would you say start to finish! just a approx. i was thinking i have a 400w hps i would get a 3x3 tent and 4 23w cfls for the corners hanging down and what size fan or fans would i need just trying to see if this will supply me with enough fresh meds for 2 that i wouldnt have to buy from these rip offs lol! any info would be graetly appreciated! oh and sorry for interupting your thread!

with a shield, some good reflective poly walls (or mylar if you have the bucks), under a 400 Watt, and great conditions, you can bring 7 hashplants to around two pounds. you're gonna have to have a veg and a different flower bulb, though because you need everything to be ideal. it's a college kid kinda thing.. 400 watts won't break the circuits in your dorm room.. one stick per plant.. no side branching. cola x 7, veg them to around 30 inches and then flower them. I'd also top them the day i flipped into flower. three gallon pots in a star of David with the smallest one of the seven in the middle defining the height of the light. turn your plants daily 120 degrees clockwise.. keep your plants close..
I like 400 watt grows, but you've really gotta get lucky (be vigilant) or else you;re going to get some weak buds. I'd also look into the THINK DIERENT. it looks revolutionary in small grows.. Lotsa tops and very consistent and quick..

Hey thanks for the advice but could i get this done with one light with auto's or atleast 4 veg cfls and the 400hps during the veg cycle! i really dont want to have 2 tents! I really need about 4.75 oz to have 1.5 grams per day thats saying 75 days from seed to bud then 14 days for drying! which would be 89 days! its not gonna be in a dorm it will be in a townhouse! Also i have a my hood is aircooled!

I haven't weighed 2 of them but my smallest plant which I might have stunted gave me a lil more than a half ounce. My tent is 62x36x20 inches so four plants got kinda crowded when I tried to put them all under my cool tube.
